Darkness

Post by Cret » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:51 am

It seems I am no longer to track, teleport, pass plant to things in the dark unless I have darkvision. Half-elf druid. No go.
but once I wear an item that grants darkvision. It works.

Should this be otherwise?

Do you mean with a source of light at hand?

If i have a light source it makes no difference. The target its self must be illuminated to find.

Confirmed on pass plant and track. Certainly doesn't make sense with tracking.

How SHOULD this go?

You can track provided YOU have light? Only by day? (That might be annoying, but also realistic...hard to track by anything less than full daylight, and it would mean quarry could gain ground by night.)

Should pass plant and teleport always work, or require light at the target? Here I can see needing to be able to see your target in their own environs. Arguments to the contrary?

My initial read is that only TRACK is broken here.

TRACK does seem to be having a problem. I don't know how difficult the change would be to make code-wise, but it makes a lot more sense to be able to track if -you- have a light, or the sun is up. Whether or not there's a light where your target is shouldn't much affect your success in finding and following tracks.
What are you talking about? What, that guy?
That was like that when I got here.

Agreed. If code allows, I'd suggest a DC modifier of +5 to +10 for low visibility conditions. SRD has +3 to +6, but also many other conditions that would increase it, that we can't easily code on here.
