Trainer: Read Magic

Post by Anguin » Thu Mar 28, 2013 10:31 pm

Entirely possible this is not a bug.

I cannot find a trainer for read magic - or any of the new level 0 spells. Since clerics start with most of these (and wizards, too, I assume) it's not a big deal. But, rangers and paladins get read magic as a level 1 spell, and I can't find a trainer.

Could be there are trainers, and I'm missing them.

I could try to learn it from a PC.

My thought is it should be a common ability - every cleric and wizard starts with it - so there should be trainers.

If this is a bug, I'd suggest adding trainers in the School of Wonder and Shrines of Deneir and Temples of Oghma.

Thanks!

This isn't really a bug, though I'll confess that (as the player of a fellow paladin) I've had the same problem. I've asked before and was assured trainers are coded and in-game, but they aren't on my beaten path. Moving this to suggestions, but seconding the notion that it would be nifty if these spells were at least a little easier to track down.

I'm not sure if this would work, but I *think* someone who has the spell could TEACH it to you. Though there too I've not had any luck haranguing someone into doing so for me. Maybe I'm just too shy and indirect, though.

Most people only get this spell at amateur level starting out with 0. So it maybe that they can't teach it unless it is by scroll, and to read the scroll you need the spell :D So it is a bit of a circle with this.

I add support in adding a more easily found NPC that contains the spell as I have not seen it in my searches as well.

It is not trained in the normal fashion now except by one mobile. One which is not accessible to anyone on a regular basis.

I will take recommendations here for trainer locations.

I'd agree with Anguin's suggestion - it would make sense to have it available in temples of Oghma and Deneir.

Daleron the librarian in house of wonder, one of the wizards in ZK (I think they are described as an elderly, stooped male human).

Tinkersdam in Zazesspur would be a good source for a slightly higher level of training, he trains a similar spell and is a bit harder to find.

I'll re-echo Anguin's original suggestion of the School of Wonder and perhaps add the House of Wonder; those seemed the go-to places to me. (But lower-level training there, I think, because they are so "easy".) Thank you for considering this!

Wondering if anything was done with these suggestions. Have not been able to locate any trainers for it yet.

No, I lost track of it. I did just make a few trainers that will come in live soon. Thanks for nudging me.
