Trainers who are thieves

Post by Tandria » Thu Apr 04, 2013 5:41 am

I hate to sound like I'm whining so I'll make this sound as unbiased as possible!

Would it be possible to have trainers who are flagged as thieves (Cloak in Golden Oaks, for instance) not be? It doesn't make much sense IC to try and learn something from someone, then have them steal all your money. There's no real IC reason, in my opinion, for a character to steal back money that they were going to spend on the character anyway!

Thank you!

Maybe just have it do a class check for rogues before it steals? That way it is not taking from it's students, but still doing its job.

I know another thief trainer had the class changed because of this. I'm pretty sure it's not stealing because of a mob prog, so a class check wouldn't really be feasible.

Isn't there a feat in game that makes this more difficult as well?

A feat that makes it more difficult for people/mobs to steal from you? No.

In case it needs to be stated, I'm not against thief NPCs in general, just ones that you train from.

Cloak is not SPEC_THIEF right now. Which was the mobile in question here?

That's odd--it was Cloak. I took out over a hundred platinum, not realising he would steal it, and he did. This happened the day I posted the topic, and when I tried again a few days later.

Is it possible he has a prog on him?

Cloak has also stolen a few hundred platinum from a thief of mine - but in the distant past.

I've lost alot of platinum back in the day from him. He's a very nasty gnome! Lol and I think maybe to the assassin in faersdale!

I know I was reminiscing about old times, and how the thief trainers will take everything coin wise.

Another thought: I know he's not flagged as thief, but if his class is thief he will steal--at least, that's the way it used to be. If his class is a rogue he will not steal.

Edit to add: The main reason this was posted at all was because Cloak is also a shopkeeper, and therefore the PC is not given the opportunity to get their stolen coin back.

I changed him to rogue the other day. Thanks for pointing this out; I remember that being annoying to me many years ago when I dealt with him!

This is fantastic! I'm sure I won't be the only player to say this, but thank you!
