The Solo Class
The Solo Class
Hey guys,
I've been trying to figure out what I think would be the best "solo" adventurer class. Often I find that I don't have time to really invest in getting a group together and xping, so it would be good if I could just go explore and level on my own without worrying about dying at every turn. So what build would you guys recommend as having the best solo playability? I was leaning toward's cleric as they get defensive spells and can wear heavier armor + use some stout weapons. I think not having stoneskin is kind of a downer, but beggars can't be choosers.
So what do you guys think?
Thanks.

Re: The Solo Class
Well, disclaimer: Let's keep in mind we are not an MMO here, but an RP MUD and 'solo' is kind of not a well functioning thing.
That said, for times of leveling alone it is all dependent on the player's style. Some fair better as all classes so I would suggest playing what you do best as.

Beshaba potatoes.
Re: The Solo Class
1. I haven't played a cleric much, so I can't speak to that.
2. I've had great success with playing an invoker; as you level, your power increases exponentially, and you can handle a lot of areas on your own that most other classes couldn't. This probably goes for some other schools of wizardry as well, but I again can't speak to those. You will have some trouble for the first couple dozen levels, though.
3. A fighter is a good all-around class that can hold its own and level pretty well, but you won't be able to handle a lot of higher-difficulty areas without a party.
4. Like Mele said, solo is okay for leveling, but don't forget this is an RP mud first and foremost. You'll have the most fun when you are in a party!

I find clerics to be very self sufficient, but in all truth, you have more fun with those in a group dynamic than alone. Impressive power is always more impressive if players can see you use it to their benefit or downfall in a group or as opposition.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Yeah, solo is death here man. It may not be when you first start out, but eventually it will get you killed in some far off hole in the ground where it takes an entire crew to rescue you.
Cleric, ranger, or bard is probably the closest to what you want though. All three have the ability to heal, but in my opinion the latter two are more fun. Clerics are just boring to me...

The truth is… you're the weak, and I am the tyranny of evil men. But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.
Re: The Solo Class
Clerics by far are are the best for solo adventure, but take it slow and it is very boring. Like everyone said though it's always more fun with someone and less risky. Even strong clerics die
Re: The Solo Class
Honestly it's hard to say anymore because the game has changed so much over the years. From what I've seen it used to be fighters were top dog, then priests, then thieves, then rangers, then wizards (Maybe not in that order). Now I'm not so sure, it seems like they are all pretty even except maybe bards (but I don't play one). I prefer soloing on my priest, but there have been times when I got too over confident in places that I frequented and ended getting into trouble. So be careful because you could wind up in a place where no one can get your corpse for a week...
Re: The Solo Class
Pick one and learn it well (save maybe thief, honestly, but then he's got a slew of other troubles to get into that aren't slaying giant monsters and are just as profitable. :3).
I would say that exceptional players, regardless of class, can handle 85% of the challenges in the game alone with some time, patience, and persistence. Be wary of death, accepting of things that are just too hard to handle alone, and open to a group when it's available, and you'll do just fine.

Re: The Solo Class
I solo almost all my characters.
The cleric is probably the all around best solo class. Most high level clerics pretty much own the place.
However, which ever route you take, I wouldn't recommend soloing with the Thief class.

Seek ye defeat? Ye shall most certainly find it.
Seek ye nothing? Then all ye can find is victory.

Re: The Solo Class
Pretty much any class but thieves are "solo-friendly", mind you can still play a solo thief but it's sort of a challenge.
In any case choose the class which will be more interesting to play for you, since eventually you will run into situations where you will need help from other classes, no matter which class are you playing.
