Barbazu in Undermountain way to hard according to d20

Hi, I recently encountered a barbazu in the undermountain that was extremely difficult. It killed both me and Zorinar. This barbazus spell resistance was increadible and so was it's ac and hit points. Mearki had her ac 34-37 on her armour and was fully buffed with +4 shield, +1 size, +3 natural, and +4 deflection, str=22 con=20 and the barbazu shredded her like nothing. She was wearing a magical black mace that was at 1d8+13 and only hit the barbazu three times that I saw. I cast a number of harm spells and only hit a couple times barely doing any damage. Zorinar cast an array of spells that barely did any damage. According to the d20 rules barbazus are supposed to be weaker than hellcats and you will see in the log that we quickly killed a hellcat that enterend. It looked to be immune to electricity instead of fire and its ac was crazy high. It just seemed like this barbazu was a little extreme for what devils are supposed to be. Also the game seemed to crash right after we died, we thought it was a little strange tho might be unrelated.

I am not a numbers guy (someone from Code Council can take that comparison on if they feel so inclined), but I dropped the barbazu's level a bit.

Looks like a race file problem - there is not a specific race file for barbazu, so it is using the default demon race file, which looks to be a copy of the balor file. Thus the barbazu is crazy-overpowered, particularly on damage resistance and ability scores. Hellcats, on the other hand, are based on the panther race and are wildly underpowered, again, particularly on damage resistance. DR makes a huge difference.

This is a bigger problem than just these beasties, so I'm going to take up race file issues more generally with the staff people in charge thereof.

While it might be nice to have race files for all the different types of devils, maybe we could just get a stock minor, medium, and major devil race files and assign them accordingly?

I think having stock races and them being assigned over a variety of different creatures is what caused some of these problems. Some subtypes of a particular race are so different that they are almost a race of their own. Plus, if you used stock races, the monsters wouldn't have the exact DR, abilities, and challenge rating that they should have. I imagine it would create similar problems later on.

For example, say you wanted to assign a minor devil race file to an imp NPC... Imps are one of the lowest ranked in terms of power and some other minor devils are leagues beyond them, so it would end up either imps are overpowered or their superiors are underpowered. If you bumped the superior minor devils up by giving them a lesser devil race instead, then the problem would just move over to lesser devils being underpowered.

Specific to this case (still waiting for resolution on the larger issue):

m11515 is mis-classified as a demon (it is a devil)
Either generic race file (demon or devil) leaves it with stats and DR beyond what it should have

All the other barbazus in-game are correctly coded as devils, but use the generic devil file and are thus probably over-powered (I just looked at their scoresheets, didn't try fighting any).
