Re: The most difficult quest in all of Faerûn
I'll admit, I 'cheated' a little to name this PC. Writers block ambushed me, so I just took an existing name in the lore books and made a sort of simple anagram with it. I'll leave it up to you guys to riddle it out.

I had to apply for this name back in the day. Before that I had a name in mind that seemed harmless to me but was apparently dirty slang in Australia. Thankfully I was granted my first choice.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

I normally have decent luck with names. For Ynaura, I had about 8 names denied. So I put the numbers 1-10 in a hat and got 6, so her name would have six letters. Then I drew letters out of a hat.

Hah... when I was 10 and first getting into MUDing I totally tried "Drizzt". Ecchh

I tried "Entreri" on a MUD (I was around 14-15 I think) way back in the day and actually got away with it... until a fellow FR nerd called me out on it.Alitar wrote:Hah... when I was 10 and first getting into MUDing I totally tried "Drizzt". Ecchh

I can't help but put on my Greyjoy face every time I see a name thread. Here's to being 14 once, and here's to reading fantasy literature far above your parental guidance permissions.
Jamais arriere.

It could be far worse, you could put on your Tyrell faceHrosskell wrote:I can't help but put on my Greyjoy face every time I see a name thread. Here's to being 14 once, and here's to reading fantasy literature far above your parental guidance permissions.

By the light of a computer scrolling a MUD that was "too graphic" because the "dummy was leaking heart-blood." LOLLathander wrote:With a little flashlight so your parents didn't know you were still awake.

Well, I'll admit, I stole one of my most recent character names from a book.
... one I'm writing now. It's not out for publishing yet.
Let's see, the first character I have any coherent memories of was, uh... Delenn, on some MUD I don't remember anymore. Props to those who know who she is.

I relish coming up with new names and character concepts. Doesn't help so much for getting them strong though. After 10 years here I have only three characters over level 40, out of 30.
Perhaps I'd do better to write about them instead of playing them, as a friend suggested...

Re: The most difficult quest in all of Faerûn
Most of my names have been borrowed from stories I've written and then buried because I was too embarrassed to let anyone else read them.
The rest I usually came up with by "fantasy-morphing" words that have something to do with the character's intended path or nature.

Your observation holds through the ages. (Zounds, I've been playing a long time!)
...and yes, a HUGE number of names are locked out because they have been used (or denied) in the past. You don't have to resort to random consonants, though. The suggestions above are great tricks.
I'll add that people seem to start in the A's on the name lists and as a consequence we have far more A names than anything else in FK! Please help remedy this by starting your search elsewhere in the alphabet. Thanks!

My newer characters' names are anagrams for their characteristics/personalities/beliefs. Anagram makers for the win!
