Wielding 'a leather gladiator net'

It is a gladiator net in the rope weapons category of weapons.
It can be picked up, held, held in both hands.
It cannot be worn with any other armour.
It is medium in size and would fit any body type.
You see nothing special.

And having trained it up to journeyman, I still have a negative hit bonus with it and wielding it in any or both hands gives me the 'You don't even know which end of a leather gladiator net is up!'

Tried wielding 'a large fishing net' that also examines as a rope weapon, same results.

Do you have exotic weapon proficiency trained for gladiator net?

Exotic Weapon Proficiency

Syntax: train 'exotic weapon proficiency' <particular weapon>

Some weapons require special training to be able to use effectively, such
as a bastard sword or a spiked chain. For these weapons, it is necessary to
learn an 'exotic weapon proficiency' to be able to use them effectively.

The following weapons are classed as exotic:

bastard sword bola boomerang
cat-o'-nine tails dwarven war axe fishing net
gladiator net jo kama
katana lasso naginata
nunchaku sai shuriken
siangham spiked chain tonfa
whip

A character using one of these weapons without having also having the 'exotic
weapon proficiency' appropriate to that particular weapon (not the appropriate
weapon skill) will be considered to be unskilled with that weapon.

Note if you do not, wielding any of these weapon types will result in a lack of proficiency and negative hit bonuses for the life of you, even if you've trained the base weapon type (lines).

Gladiator and fishing nets are both exotic weapons, and thus require the exotic weapon proficiency feat to be used effectively.
