Sheathing bows

Post by Benorf » Tue Oct 15, 2013 9:11 pm

I don't know if this has been addressed, soooo....

In the movies, you often see people running around with their longbows strung and just over their shoulder. That is the quickest way to ruin a bow. The longer is stays with the string on, the less snap it has, causing it to lose it's draw strength.

Is it safe to assume then, that whenever you stop using a longbow you unstring it? If that is the case, I can see no reason why simply sheathing a longbow in a scabbard would be a problem.

I just want to clarify the RP purposes, in case someone sees me doing this, that I personally think it's fine. Crossbows I hang on loops, and simple longbows go in scabbards.

Anyone see problems with this?

I'm not sure what sort of bow you have, but none of the bows I have, compound, recurve, short bow, or long bow, will fit in a scabbard strung or unstrung. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scabbard Typically a scabbard is leather or metal, and made to fit closely to the blade of the sword/knife, to prevent damage to the edge from bouncing around.

There would be no problem with a crossbow hung from a weapons loop, however. A weapons harness would be a suitable sheath for a bow, if you don't have access to the special bow sheathes.

Beat me to the punch on this. A harness would be exactly what I think is proper for a bow.

A bow will actually fit in a sheath type object with the sheath command. I have an area pending with a lot of things for rangers, among them I will add a specific bow scabbard. (Bow scabbard Google Image Search.)
