Ridiculous, and obvious use of OOC knowledge.

Post by Thoril » Fri Nov 22, 2013 2:24 am

I think it is ridiculous that many of the Characters here use OOC knowledge, and pass it off as IC knowledge. It might be the limited amount of users in game, I only have 2 characters, many people have 4-5. It is just getting out of hand, I have been playing my character alot more frequently, than another I have been in contact frequently, and he is probably the same level and knows more spells than I do. I had only been away for 3 days, and he went from level 5 spells to 8 spells, either he is power leveling and not rping, or using OOC knowledge. It is just turning me off of the game now.

I am not sure that you can expect people to forget what they have learned over the years of playing. It's not a race though; it does not mean much that some other player levels more quickly than you. Harroghty did not make level 50 until he had about 2,000 hours and it's never hurt me.

I understand that they will not forget everything, but there is also a difference of using all the information that you have acquired over the years, without restraint in regards to RP, and trying to properly RP. I went through proper RP for all the things I have done with my second wizard. Granted it is only my second character, I learned alot from my first, but I have used restraint in my OOC knowledge, in regards to RP. I am not trying to cause any problems, and I am certainly not trying to race ahead for leveling and power sake, I just think restraint should be used in the knowledge area. Regardless I am a pariah now. Most Powerful characters are alts of the same people.

I have several alts, but I never play or develope them, every single one eventually turns into Gwain, so I just play him, why mess with perfection?

Gwain was level 30 from 2004-2007, I made level fifty at around 6000 hours on him in late 2008, mostly through gradual grinding and grouping. There are characters that achieve that in less than half the time. They are more focused, talented or able to commit time to creating unique characters. Some of them understand game mechanics and code to a greater degree than others, they can make characters that rarely die or can quickly level by using this know how. This is not a bad thing, its the price of time, repetition impulse. Sometimes I do get bothered by the acceleration of others, but over the past while I've learned to accept it, if people want to reach the end result faster, that's their choice. The only thing you can count on is how you conduct yourself. And how you choose to enjoy the game at your own pace. Its not easy, but if you enjoy it, that's what matters.

As for being a pariah, if you feel that you're being singled out for ooc reasons, I would tell you that you ought to file a complaint in the complaints forum. No one deserves ooc abuse.

This. Rhangalas is still not max level and I have been playing him for going on 3 years now.
