Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
This feat in FK is a fighter only feat. In SRD it is a General Feat available to anyone and is also a candidate for the use of Fighter Bonus Feats.
This feat should be added to squires, paladins, and priests. The three other classes that use heavy armor without having to spend any feats on additional armor proficiencies.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
Feats are limited for the other classes, but I think paladins should absolutely be allowed to take it, and priests if it's SRD.

I am a hair biased, but I do think that other martial types with the knack for heavy armor should be allowed to train the feat.

Source material backing, makes sense in general... fine by me for the suggested classes.

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
I am all for this, especially seeing at this is straight from SRD. Not really sure why we wouldn't.

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
At the time implemented it was feared this feat would be over-powered; at the time implemented, it was. Since then we've gained access to a lot of magic armor, more accessible/customizable armor types (light mail and special materials), and creeped in the direction of stronger characters in general, so I just don't see it having the same scale-tipping influence it once might have. Open it up!

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
With the smaller pool of feat points, it seems a fair trade for the slight ac increase.

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
While the subject's up, does it codedly add an armour bonus only when a character is actually wearing heavy armour? The description text is ambiguous on that count.
Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
Looks like all positive feedback to this, wondering if it can maybe be implemented in time for the feats event.

Two month anniversary of positive (if not a bit limited) feedback; feel this one deserves a bump.

Mine as well. Its a straightforward implementation of SRD rules.Alitar wrote:The idea certainly has my full support.Harroghty wrote:Moved to suggestions. Any one else have an opinion here?

Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
I'm all for it. They need a few more feats out there for all types out there. The tough part is there are so many feats it's hard to pick. Especially considering the core books and all the other secondary ones holding things that would be useful and even fun to play with.
Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
I'm all for anything that helps paladins out. Priests though... take it or leave it. May not be that useful to them.
Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
I'm worried about how the feat could affect balance for Clerics too, since they're already pretty comfy where they're at. Paladins however... well, they're in need. Re: Feat - Heavy Armor Optimization
Not to derail the thread, but +1 AC pales in comparison to many of the tactical casting feats priests can acquire--and they are, rightfully, feat starved into making a tough decision here. I can't say on my priest that I'd take it in the current environment, but I might have at one point.
