small sized races and weapons discrepencies

Post by hasryn » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:08 pm

Alright I've been tinkering with my first little person and wielding a shortsword(medium sized) I can do that one handed but a rapier(medium) requires two hands. Either the shortsword is not doing what it's supposed to? Or the rapier isn't that means a shortsword is getting the 1d6 while rapier is forced down to size small which is 1d4 lol.

A shortsword is classed as a small weapon, a rapier as a medium weapon. I think that squares with d20, which classifies a short sword as a "light melee weapon", while a rapier is a "one-handed melee weapon," the next class up:

I believe only (and any of) the light melee weapons listed there can be held in one hand by a small PC, but the "one handed melee weapons" will require two in the hands of a small PC.

Just a suggestion Hasryn, it really is better to try and get your mittens on small-sized weapons. The die type might be smaller but you won't be taking such a hit to your 'to hit' number. Just my 2 cents to try and help out.
