You begin to chant.
A barbazu ducks under Djibrill's slashing attack.
An earthstone glows briefly.
A starstone glows briefly.
a barbazu seems unaffected by your spell.
A barbazu ducks under Djibrill's slashing attack.
A demon who should fall under the correct credentials to be affected by the spell is well unaffected. I use the spell close to 15 times will all the same result. No damage not a single thing other than a basic repeat of the copy/paste. Possible fix maybe?

Re: Dismissal Not working?
There was something amiss here! This area clearly came in before the race updates, since most of the beasties in it are coded as incorrect races.
With a true barbazu as the target, it typically took at least 10 casts to have banishment get through. (When it does, it is devastating, though.) Barbazu have the iron will feat and a WIS of 26, so that's not surprising. With some specimens it took more like 20 casts; they were the higher level ones.
With dismissal, the caster must be of higher level than the target, and barbazu are level 45 to 50. (Banishment only requires the caster level be half that of the target.) Thus it is possible your PC will never be able to banish a given barbazu, if it is level 50. (Or if you are not level 50, you might not be able to banish any of them.)
Is this out of whack? I gather these things are supposed to be (very) tough to dispatch, though these are the right spells for the job.
That said, currently barbazu are coded as "devil" which is always level 50, so you could never get dismissal to work on them. The imps and lemures in this area are also coded as the wrong races, so are unaffected by either dismissal or banishment. I've put in a request with the area team to have these race issues fixed. (Warning: they get more dangerous when coded the right race, as best I can tell...though they do become vulnerable to the right spells.) Hellcats also have this problem, but the fix there isn't as easy since they don't have a race file (yet).

Re: Dismissal Not working?
The thing Im curious is about, is having successfully used the spells on a wizard and priest, in that area. Did a change recently happen to make this the way it currently is?

Re: Dismissal Not working?
I'm not sure we are looking at the same area, but these spells should only work on outsiders. There are some priests and wizards meeting that requirement ("skulk preist" is one), but these spells should not work on most. I have not changed the spell code recently, but it is possible the area code has been changed.Orplar wrote:The thing Im curious is about, is having successfully used the spells on a wizard and priest, in that area. Updated the race files involved.

Re: Dismissal Not working?
The races for the demons in this area should now be correct, and dismissal (and banishment) now work on all of them save the hellcat. However, dismissal remains subject to its inherent limitations, so if you happen to run into a demon that is of the same or higher level than yourself, dismissal isn't going to work on it. Even when that is not the case, high-level demons have very good saving throws and it's going to take a lot of tries, typically, to dismiss or banish them.
Note: Harroghty is still working on the hellcat - it is still coded as a panther, at present, so dismissal/banishment will not work on it. It needs a new race file, which is a lot more work.
