Encumbrance
Encumbrance
Hi
Not sure if it is down to the recent change or if it is as it should be.
I am noticing moving around the Underdark seems to be restricted to one or two tunnel moves where it could previously manage 3-5
Load is considered medium.
Thanks

Similar Issue have a drow medium load, 100% stam cannot move from the room she is in only repsonce I get is your too exhausted.
Re: Encumbrance
Navigating the underdark is quite difficult now, with stamina being drained by 50% per room. Its quite annoying and in my personal opinion adds nothing to the game.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Encumbrance
I completely agree with this. When you have to sit, and wait for anything to come back then repeat, stamina especially, and try to progress forward, it adds nothing, and detracts everything. This would be a bad time for many new players to join us. It doesn't just make the game increasingly difficult, it makes it annoying to play.Gwain wrote:Navigating the underdark is quite difficult now, with stamina being drained by 50% per room. Re: Encumbrance
Maybe now would be a good time to remove stamina altogether? It's a relic and we've already got speed-imposed lag. It doesn't exist in D&D as a statistic; must it here?

Re: Encumbrance
There's a lot in the game that depends on stamina though, and each of those things would have to be re-coded. Not as quick a task as it sounds. Long-term, I do think speed based lag is a better system, but I think easy quick fixes might be best short-term. The work vs benefit doesn't play out too super well otherwise.
Far away and across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell.
Re: Encumbrance
Here's my analysis, for what it's worth.
In the past, stamina had little effect on travel except at low levels.
Once you get to higher levels, flight/teleportation/mounts meant that most characters could travel across pretty much the whole map without worrying about running out of stamina. The only characters that "suffered" from low stamina were the low-level ones, who either couldn't take advantage of better transportation or had such low stamina that they still ran out. By around level 30 (rough estimate, and depending on the character) I haven't had to worry about stamina. (The general exceptions were dragging someone's remains around, mining, or traveling the Underdark).
You could argue that stamina helps keep low-level characters from wandering too far afield and getting into trouble, but given that there are several low-level quests that entail exactly that, I think it really only serves to slow down their exploration.
Stamina makes more sense at high levels when it limits your ability to drag remains, mine ore, and navigate difficult terrain. But does it serve this purpose better than lag/delay? A couple pros/cons to consider:

- Lag/delay may take the same amount of travel time overall, when resting is considered. But you don't have times of sitting around unable to do anything while your stamina recharges.
- On the other hand, if you're in a group, stamina-imposed rest stops give more opportunity for roleplay when traveling/mining/etc. - albeit not necessarily at your discretion.

I believe I've worked out the last of the kinks in this feature. There were various things that interacted with each other in weird, wonderful and unexpected fashions to make the effects of Stamina changes much more brutal than planned. Please let me know if any behaviour still seems screwy.
Re: Encumbrance
In deep forest in the outermap, marked by a capital F, takes 23% movement on my level 24 wizard with 18 Constitution for a single square. 9-10% for a square in the plains.
That seems a bit excessive as it would mean it's impossible to ever flee if you get below that in combat without a spell like Refresh.

Re: Encumbrance
Refresh gives very very little stamina, so don't count on it as a saving grace.
