Leveling

Post by Kaaurk » Fri Oct 03, 2014 2:10 am

I've noticed over the last while that leveling has become more difficult. I understand that there needs to be a balance between RP and training and that it is something that should take a little time. That being said I think the balance is a little off. I've had to spend hours training for very little reward and I feel that is taking away from time I could be RPing with others. Characters with an ECL have it much more difficult.

I was wondering if this is something that could be looked into, One shouldn't spend more time trying to get a few levels then necessary to avoid eating into RP which this game is about.

I might be wrong here, but I think there's an hours played --> experienced gained correlation. I think the idea is that you will RP at low levels, stacking the hours, then go out and more easily gain your exp. Honestly though I haven't really seen it kick in for my current lowbie project. Some more insight might be available from people in the know of current mechanics.

So you get more xp per mob kill based on the number of hours played?

That's an interesting system. This game has complexity upon complexity upon complexity.

I like to RP WHILE I XP, but it's sometimes difficult to find a group. Right now there's seven players on, 3 of which would have faith RP conflicts with me, 1 is apparently in the underdark, and who knows where the others are?

In the evenings it is easier but I don't always get the opportunity to play then.

There's also the level discrepancy that a new player faces. I can't exactly go find the Steeleye and ask him to come kill maggots in the sewers with me.

You most certainly can go ask the steeleye to hunt rats in the sewers. Never let some fancy title stop ya from a potential funny roleplay. As for the hours played giving a bonus. I have not known this to be the case. I have a tremendous amount of hours on low level characters and have never noticed any quicker leveling. Be nice if this were the case though.

Hours played don't give a bonus to xp if you have played more hours, you have a penalty to xp if you haven't played enough hours.

Hrm. What constitutes "enough"? At what point do you cease to have the penalty?
