Mount Problems and Woes

Post by Addisun » Wed Oct 29, 2014 10:56 am

Due to some serious connectivity problems, I've been unable to play FK for the past few months. After finally resolving it, I come back, naturally.

When I logged in, I immediately went for my mount - which I foolishly thought I had stabled in Shadowdale, off the Northride. Unfortunately, after handing him my token, he just sat there and did nothing. I'm honestly not even sure if that token was suppose to go to him!

It also makes me wonder - where exactly is my mount? I logged near that stable and my horse - which shows up on my group list - but he's nowhere to be seen.

Also, I've noticed that my mule - which I've also managed to lose and (I think) lack a token for - has raising and lowering stamina. I don't know what would cause this, but it is somewhat frustrating.

Is there any way I can locate or retrieve my mounts for my character Addisun?

I've had similar problems keeping up with my mounts.

DON'T DO THIS before you get other answers as there may be a better way, but since mine weren't fabulously expensive, unique, or carrying any gear I just dismissed them by name remotely and bought new ones.

If you remember what your token looked like, you might be able to narrow it down IC, and get help locating a stable that used it. Otherwise you can ask around ICly to see if anyone can mirror your pets. If you are unable to find them by IC means, which should always be approached first, then you will want to approach the staff in aid of finding your mounts.

OR if you really want that mount and it's in the wilderness, you could approach your favorite druid or ranger and let them put their tracking skills to use. :)

I suppose a mage could also perhaps scry out that mount for you, but much less fun.

An epic quest in the making ... finding your lost pony.

Sometimes it is not so simple with tracking, but it is still an IC option :)

If you use a client, and have different settings saved for each character (like me), then set a variable for where your pets are. It's a good OOC way to remember if you have a lot of characters (like me) and a short memory (like me). One has to assume that even the character with 8 intelligence can remember things better than I can.

You can also set aliases to remember things about your character. Such as: alias horse stabled at blablah stable before you log out. You can then check your alias list to remember. It is also handy for obscure character information you want to remember.

This is the reason I only stable my pets in one of two places. If I ever lose my token, I know exactly where to go to get another one. I am far to forgetful to put them in any old stable.

Yeah. I tend to stash my animal companions out in the wilderness though and they get lost. Then I have to track them down. :)

That's why druids have track. So we can find the stupid pets we lost.

Not all druids have track, so no, it's not quite why druids have track. ;)

As far as the lost mount is concerned - Do ask around about the token and be sure you handed it to the right place. (Think back, when you handed it over did it echo that the Stablemaster went to retrieve your pet?)

If this doesn't work, and your pet has a name it might be easy for someone to magic mirror them.

To be frank, tracking in your case is not a fantastic idea. The skill only works per area. So unless they are standing in the area you left you mount they will get nothing.

As you have been gone months, that could take a very long time.

As a last line of option - feel free to PM me personally and tell me you have not found the mount by IC means and I will look into it and either give you a clue or the mount. :)

The stablemaster did not echo anything, which is why I assumed it was indeed the wrong stablemaster.

It was a greenish token - possibly the Waterdeep one? I can't imagine I used another stable besides the one where I was or the one around the southern waterdeep gate.

I know one of my two mounts has to be out in the wilderness because I only had one token in my possession (assuming it's not on the other mount), and I'm thinking that it might be my horse (considering how far from home Addisun was.) since I was most likely riding it.

My Pets do have names, so hopefully I can get assistance in the quest to locate them. (Before they become venison.)

Thank you for all the replies! Very helpful!
