I think regardless of opinion.... its fairly important to not have keywords on an NPC that don't appear in his .... short desc. since I don't know the proper term for it here.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

In this case you mistakenly typed "mar" or something along those lines instead of "mear". That guard is one of the rare ones with a keyword not immediately obvious (marketguard - something for the immortals' ease in travelling around).
Short description - what you see when an NPC acts or is acted upon
Long description - what you see when an NPC is in the room
Extra description - what you see when you look at an NPC
Sometimes there are keywords which are not in those for a number of reasons. It might implied (human, man, woman, etc.) or it might be known to only some (a hidden title or private name used by only some PCs) or it might be used by a program or IMM (a keyword designed to be triggered or trigger something).

In the end, while you can and should feel free to abbreviate commands, it is always the best policy not to do so with targets of commands.
