Scrolls
I seem to be suffering a delay after reciting a scroll that makes it unfeasible to use scrolls in combat.
Was this the delay's intended purpose... and if so, why?

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
Re: Scrolls
I haven't been able to recite a scroll via 'use magic device' ever. Wands/zap and staves/brandish work, but not reciting scrolls. Anyone else?
Re: Scrolls
Last I heard and as far as I know, the Use Magic Device skill has a few issues, this being one. Thieves can't read or recite scrolls with it.Aunala wrote: I haven't been able to recite a scroll via 'use magic device' ever. Wands/zap and staves/brandish work, but not reciting scrolls. Anyone else?
Re: Scrolls
As far as I know you can't recite scrolls that contain spells that your class could not use. So basicly this means thieves can't use scrolls

Re: Scrolls
I've got a scroll in my pocket which is kind of weird. Maybe this thread can answer if it's a bug or not.
Weapon of energy but my cleric cannot write it. Says there are no spells to learn.
Is it because the scroll was scribed by a wizard and not another cleric?

Re: Scrolls
Hmm, thats weird. I have a scroll thats kind of the opposite maybe.
It can be written, but not recited.

Re: Scrolls
A little late on this -
I had a scroll that I wanted to write from, but it had harm and fire storm on it, in that order.
I 'recite[d] first' on harm, so i could 'write scroll' and learn fire storm, but received the response that I could not write spells from it.
Is there a way to direct writing from a scribe to the first, second, or third spell on a scroll?
Also I'm curious as to why I couldn't write from the scroll.

Re: Scrolls
To my knowledge no. You can't learn firestorm because firestorm was scribed as the second spell. and retains that slot.
doesn't matter if you recite all other spells from it the firestorm will always be put into the second slot on that particular scroll and only the first slot can ever be learnt from as in help scroll.
If you scribe onto that scroll, you'll actually see that the new spells come before and after the firestorm in that order. I found this out myself the other day.

Re: Scrolls
Upon more testing I'm pretty sure reciting scrolls delay command input for about 2 rounds worth of time.
This makes them largely less attractive than wands in combat. Was this the intended outcome?

Re: Scrolls
I have seen this done and have done it myself. I cannot remember the command though. It might be "write 2" or "write two"Levine wrote:Is there a way to direct writing from a scribe to the first, second, or third spell on a scroll?

My thief can recite scrolls.
Seek ye victory? Ye shall eventually find defeat.
Seek ye defeat? Ye shall most certainly find it.
Seek ye nothing? Then all ye can find is victory.

Does your thief have, like, a ridiculously high Use Magic Device skill or something?Zorinar wrote: My thief can recite scrolls.
I don't mean to ask for IC info... And actually it's probably better this question goes unanswered. But I'm honestly curious as every other thief I've seen (my own included) fails every attempt to recite, even under the effects of read magic. I was told the skill isn't functioning properly--it'd be a huge boon if it turns out it is!
Re: Scrolls
At a certain skill level in 'use magic device' I have managed to use a wand several times but I would also fail several times while when I had it lower it always would fail, so skill is a factor here.
I figure that with scrolls will be roughly the same.
