Richard Baker - Last Mythal-Trilogy (All kinds of elves especially Evermeet's, nice take on noble houses and court stuff, High Magic and much action)

The Elves of Evermeet Sourcebook and the Cormanthyr - Empire of Elves Sourcebook are both an excellent and very informative read, especially the first offering many parts written from the perspective of a human elf-friend.

The Curse of Chalion series is great fantasy stuff.
The Vorkosigan saga is great sci-fi stuff.

Connie Willis - The Doomsday book and sequels are great Time Travel sci-fi.

Anything RA Salvatore is fantastic. I know Greenwood is the real champion of FR, but Salvatore is a better writer in my opinion. Theres so many books that follow the same character(s), you'll never be dissatisfied. It also gives you a good amount of FR history.

The first three that he wrote were The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, and The Halflings Gem, and then he went back and wrote the trilogy that prequeled that, with Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn. I recommend starting with Homeland.

I like the Salvatore things featuring Jarlaxle.

I got away from the Drizzt books because I think they turn into constant cryfests and whinefairs of an overpowered lame ranger.

Salvatore has a tendancy not to flesh out the characters I want to know more about. Excluding Entreri and
Bruhna, people like Cap deudermont and Cordio muffinhead make it onto my list, the latter for obvious reason. Oh, and lets not forget about like... all the moon wood elves. Between last mythal and abysal plague, I'm starting to get a taste for elf and eldarin main characters. is rare I find an FR novel that has anything quite like thee fantasy voltage writers like Peter V Bret and Robert jordan but I'd have to say if you want some serious FR writing skill with better fleshed out characters and plot twists you don't see a mile away I'd go with people like Erin M. Evans.

Don't get me wrong, I still read Drizzt almost religiously and contrary to all reason I find his introspection chapters really quite compelling for some weird reason. A few of them have a tendancy to parody real life which lends them some gravity and lets be honest, Drizzt isn't exactly the most powerful character in FR, even among fighters but visualizing him fight and the carnage thereafter keeps me around pretty firmly.
