DnD Adventures

Post by Danik » Fri Nov 06, 2015 10:43 pm

I had never played the tabletop game before, although I have been reading the books for years. I never knew anyone that played DnD. Finally after years of wanting to play I decided to start my own game. I got all the stuff, roped some friends and family in and have DM'd a few sessions now. It has gone swimmingly well! Surprisingly so to be honest.

Due to a shipping problem I didn't have the starter quest for our first session, so I made something up using the area knowledge I've gained from this game. Right now my PCs are in waterdeep and need to deal with the troubling problem of zombies in the city of the undead. I'm having a good time and I think that this game is giving me inspiration to create fun new stories.

If anyone else was in the same boat as me with never having played DnD I have to say that 5e is really easy to learn, and just giving it a go is worthwhile!

My first time DMing was with 4th, for Svenrick and a "friend" of our's. I'd tried a few times before that but online games (rarely) -n-ever work out. I've DM'd Pathfinder, 4th, 3.5e, Shadowrun, World of Darkness, and some other games before. My longest running game was a Disgaea-flavored SimpleD6 game.

I'm a person who usually just lets the players dictate the story. I start them off with something simple, give them some options, and let the shenanigans begin. I -always- get stuck with people who just refuse to follow guidelines when I try to make deeper stories.

Is 5e any good? I though 4e was horrible and decided that all editions beyond 4th was unholy land. I mostly DM a 3.5e homebrew set in the FR universe.
In responce to Maetha: Do you ever get that problem where the players are just not doing the whole "gonna be a hero thing?" In one of my sessions, all players goofed around a dead wizard's tower, mixing cheese with splinters from the torn up floorboards and trying to release all the critters the wizard has bound in pocket dimensions. For thirty minutes. The worst part is that they still have the bowl of cheese 'n' splinters.

I've heard bad things about 4e in the research I did before starting. 5e is supposedly simplified and places more emphasis on rp with easy to learn combat.

My players have taken to collecting eyeballs from creatures they kill.. it's a bit more gruesome than I would like, but as long as they are having fun I'm happy.

5e was wizard's answer to bring fresh blood into the game after splitting their fan base with the release of 4e. 5e is so simple, after playing 3.5 and path finder, I was confused at how simple it was... its that simple.

I ran a path finder game every sunday from january till june, then ran a 5e one from august till october. Had some problem players but they've usually jumped overboard or been let go and yes, this game was a great help. Being blind I can't read maps so I just used FK's layout for everything. Some of you have even appeared in my games... I know I should be ashamed for not asking for copyright reasons but I promise none of you were killed in embarrassing ways! (None of you were actually enemies, but maybe I should change that)

If anyone is looking for an easy going player for anything via online means, I'd be up for it. Just shoot me a pm.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

I play a bi-weekly game of 5E and I have to say, if you ever wanted to get into play tabletop but where worried about not knowing what to do. Go out right now and buy the Players Manual for 5E and I promise you, you will have enough knowledge to start running something within a week. It's amazingly easy to learn and understand.

There are even free rulebooks and guides on their site. Although I recommend at least getting the players hand book if you're going forward with playing.

It was more that they weren't biting on any hooks. To the north is a war to take part in, to the east is tales of treasure and beaches, to the south is piracy on the high seas, to the west is cowboy adventure.
