Hidden/Invis emotes

Post by teepo » Sun Nov 29, 2015 10:56 pm

There was a discussion about RP and those that hide and sneak and even use invis and some great points were made in this so I thought I'd take something from that and put it here as a suggestion for the game.

Specific emote commends for those hidden/sneaking or under an invisibility spell.

While most of the time I found myself not really doing anything while hidden or under an invisibility spell, because say for instance if I emoted "listens intently and smiles" while hiding there was always the chance that someone would RP knowing I was there or suddenly people would want to start using necessary skills or spells to see me. That really takes away from the Role Play for me and I feel for others who might do similar things.

But a point was brought up that I thought was very good, just because someone is hidden doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to emote and Role Play actively. Creating an emote-like skill for these situations I think will go a long way. Such as an hmote for hide/sneak and an imote for invisibility, since both have different properties and there are different abilities to use to see people who are under these affects. Examples Below..

hmote - a person is hiding in the market. There are many people there and one person has a detect hidden spell active and another has used abilities relative to spot checks. Clearly those people can see them but the others in the market can't. The hidden person hmotes during a situation and the detect hidden/spotters are able to see the hmote because it does some kind of check for that affect, however the others would not see it because they don't have any affects. The main thing about this is it would have to be used responsibly such as no major sounds or getting up and dancing in the middle of everyone.

imote - similar scenario, in the middle of the square, only one person with detect invisibility and no one else with it. You imote something that only the person with detect invisibility would see. The imote does a check for the detect invisibility affects or any other affects that allows someone to see invisible people and anyone not under the affect would not see the imote.

Of course, this suggestion is not something that's a dire fix, but I think it would really add to Role Play if we had it.

Thanks for your attention!

Agreed, I've always been of the mind that movement under invisibility needs some tweaks. Mostly due to the numerous times one of my wizards would be using a flight spell with invisibility. Since there is the "Someone flies in from X" echo, I always had someone immediately peering about the room and exclaiming "Reveal yourself!". I mean, how do you "hear" levitation?

I very much like this idea.

That said, I'd bet it'd take a lot of work to implement something like that, and I'm not sure it'd be worth it when all we need is some better awareness and cooperation among players.

These are completely my own thoughts and have as far as I know no basis in anything save my rather insane mode of reasoning. :D First, and obviously, levitation and flight are different. I totally agree that levitation isn't something anyone would hear, but flight... That increases your movement speed by a ton, and even when your immobile, the air continues it's whipping and swirling about your person, both of those being things one could hear pretty easily.

I have no idea and many doubts as to whether that made sense outside the confines of my mind... But there you go!

I honestly feel this should be something tied into a more robust version of the smote/emote system, likely smote as it already does a heck of a lot more than emote does now.

In short order, we need a change to the echoing of actions for those hidden/invisible that is similar to the lack of echoing for those sneaking about rooms. If your spot skill check makes it so that you can 'see' the pc (as in the "(Hiding)" notice next to their name in the room), or you have a detection spell active, you get those extra echoes.
It could also go a long way to improving spot skills if it checks against spot each time something happens that is technically hidden.
