monstrous eyeballs

I had the wacky thought of making all the random monster eyes out there be it rakshasa, cyclops, etc.. count like yuan ti eyes. They are all sufficiently hard to get. It would give the eyes purpose and they're all sufficiently hard to get. Some more so than others, but still not an easy thing to acquire.

Don't see why not myself. At one point I felt like there was a use for them I hadn't figured out yet but eh.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

I'm almost positive some but not all of them can replace the yuan-ti eye as a component. I'd like to see this changed, as well, if possible, though I don't think it's a high-priority kind of thing. Rakshasa, Cyclopse, Aboleth, etc. The only type of eyes I don't think could be used in place of yuan-ti are those of the kir-lanen.

This is worth considering since the eyes don't do very much else right now. It's crazy that there's only X source(s) for yuan-ti eyes, considering that it's quite a crucial component.

I think that it's ok providing those alternate eyes are equally difficult to acquire, if just to force PC's visiting less popular places in FK.

Are you sure these eyes are useless?
I would bet the aboleth eyes replace some other component. I wonder which one, though.

The eyes do serve a purpose for a certain quest, so they're not entirely useless.

I would be for adding them as component supplements as well though.

This is a no snark zone mister! And yes I know about the aboleth eyes, but most of the other eyes are jus' out there and realistically in a non realistic world. They're would be alternate components for eyes. Probably not a snake-humanoid eyes for all spellcasting of such a spell! Else the yuan-ti would be herded like cattle by wizards and shops of the realms! that or extinct.

All eyes of predatory birds on here or something else that would be generally easy to get excluding the roc's. I believe yuan-ti eyes were chosen for FK because it makes the spells their for less frivelous and not as accessible by absolutely everyone in the beginning of their career. You could give good reasons why yuan-ti aren't farmed in the world and they'd hold up as well as a rice paper house against a tsunami because as far as I've seen in dnd. The first and most important function of components is to counter the utility or power of certain spells rather than to make sense.

Taking that into account, i believe that all of these would make good replacements since your neighbourhood cyclopse / rakshasa and the rest are just as hard to kill and only slightly less elusive than your yuan-ti. More so where Rakshasa are concerned in my experience.

there are components available to replace yuan-ti eyes already. Instead of making more eyes do the same function, I'd prefer if someone made an area elsewhere with more yuan-ti to hunt.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

I do like the wilderness areas where you run into groups of creatures in the wild as part of the map expansion.

I haven't been there but isn't that possible in their native environment of underdark?

In anycase, good idea being good but what should we be doing with these other monster eyes if anything then?

I don't see why we can't do both? None of those items mentioned are easily accessible either. Having a greater variety might help, and instead of "yuan-ti eyes" as a component, that can be switched to a generic form of "an eye/an eyeball/a monstrous eyeball".

I've always wondered why a low-level spell like invisibility has such a rare component. In 3.5 the component is an eyelash or something like that.

I would assume, because it is more powerful here than in tabletop so the component was used to limit who generally has access to it.
