Training using bonus feats with unspent general feats.

Post by Rycird » Sun Mar 27, 2016 8:50 pm

I had a recent epiphany involving Fighters and their large pool of bonus feats. Say I'm a Fighter with one unspent bonus feat and a general feat available and want to train Weapon Focus. Is it possible to tell the game to train a feat from the Fighter bonus pool using the bonus feat instead of the general feat, or does the game default to bonus feats if applicable?

My reason for asking is primarily that as a low level Fighter wanting to go into dual wielding, I have to save general feats for the two-weapon fighting perks which are all not on the bonus Fighter list.

Edit: I stand corrected, the two-weapon fighting feats are on the Fighter bonus tree and the helpfiles got updated to reflect that.

I believe the game will default to using up a bonus feat point first if possible.

Though upon bringing this to my attention, is there a reason the two weapon chain isn't part of the fighter bonus feats?
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

I'm hoping it does or I get a concrete answer, but there's plenty of time before I actually have to spend the feats.

On that second note, I'm... not sure.

Edit: I know that Endurance and Toughness aren't because they're general feats, not directly related to combat alone.

For weapon focus and such I'm 99.5% certain it'll spend the bonus feat.

I did have an issue with my Thief training one of the feats not included on the (very nice) thief class feats list. It used the precious bonus feat I had planned for one of the feats of thief that can only be purchased with one of their few bonus feat pts.

I think that all other classes have..... general feats > class feats.... Since for all the other classes aside from thief the bonus class feats list is more limited then their entire trainable feat "pool". Where as the thief bonus points can be used on -any- of the trainable feats but those bonus points are the -only- points that can be used on their special class feats.

So, for fighter if it is under the fighter bonus feats helpfile. It will take the point from their bonus feats rather then regular if both points are available.

My fighter has most of the dual wielding feats and some feats to spare, have to plan out(many, not all) ahead of time and not be in a huge hurry to spend is the best advice I can give. Though I cannot recall if the two-weapon feats used bonus or not, would like to say they did even though were not on the list but cannot remember for sure.

Fighters can buy the two-weapon fighting feats with their bonus feat points.

Really? Awesome, that makes the planning process less... intensive, then.

As a follow up to this because I had only a quick sec earlier, could links to the two-weapon fighting, two-weapon defense, improved two-weapon fighting, and greater two-weapon fighting helpfiles be added to the fighter bonus feats helpfile? They are a part of the fighter bonus feats list but not currently mentioned on that page.

Thanks!

Also improved brawling, for that matter.
