So I've been thinking.
What do people think of having the home town starting items, e.g. water deep bracelet / tabard granting bonuses as in detailed in Harroghty's post detailing city characteristics.
I'll attempt to find it and link it here but from my recollection I believe Being from Waterdeep granted some social bonuses so perhaps that can translate to the Waterdeep items increasing the rate at which you learn languages etc.
Thanks for reading.

Home town starting areas
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Re: Home town starting areas
There are several regional feats (not in FK) that would accomplish it rather than giving a flat bonus to everyone from X

Re: Home town starting areas
Considering a reasonable number of players role-play as having grown up in or near the home towns for their first character at least, I was thinking a ring/bracelet/tabard granting something related to their home town as part of the newbie kit would make more sense than implementing feats for something that in the long run is rather minor and not attractive enough to pay a feat point for.
I'm not suggesting these items to grant anything like strong soul etc, just boons that would be useful enough for them not to be discarded out of hand.

I like the idea entirely. I think that we have soo many items meant for RP flavor most typically discard those first few items they get in favor of the new magical stuff. It might make it neat to have something like a Waterdhavian Signet Ring mean something in the form of +3 to haggle. Nothing crazy, but it denotes that being from Waterdeep means you're used to trading enough to understand haggling a little for things. +3 is barely scary enough to make it game breaking, and haggle could be a fun little tool for new players and low levels buy that new piece of armor a little earlier while keeping a couple coin for dinner as well.
