Question about "in game" skills

Post by Aysa » Sun May 22, 2016 5:55 pm

It's been a while since my PC was shown how to "fletch", how to "tan" hides, how to "make a bow".

Is there some place IC that she can go to get a refresher course? Or is there somewhere off-line that I go to get the steps again?

Are they not in the help files for those subjects?

help fletching wrote: Fletching
=========
Syntax: fletch <wood> <bow/crossbow type>

Fletching is the art of crafting arrows and bolts, basically attaching
feathers and an arrowhead to a notched shaft that will fly true. In order to
learn this trade, a PC must find and complete a quest; it is not learned with
the train command, but only through one of these quests.

You must specify the type of bow/cross bow your arrow will fit.
Possible types include: long bow, short bow, composite bow,
light crossbow, heavy crossbow.
help tanning wrote: Tanning
=======
Syntax: tan skin

Tanning is the skill of treating skins from various animals and making it
into leather that can be used for clothing and armour. In order to learn how
to tan a PC will need to do a quest to learn the skill. The skill is not
learned with the train command but only by quest.

* In order to tan a skin, you need the skin and a jar of brine (very salty
water) in your inventory.

* The resulting tanned hides can be used with the leatherworking trade.
help woodworking wrote: Woodworking
===========
Woodworking is the art of making useful objects and weapons out of wood. In
order to learn how to work wood a PC will need to do a quest to learn the
skill. The skill is not learned with the train command but only by quest.

Syntax: (disabled)construct container[box|scabbard|chest|crate] <woodobject>
construct weapon <weapontype> <woodobject> [size] [masterwork]
construct armor shield <woodobject> <shieldtype> [size] [masterwork]
construct armor {with no arguments, will return a list of the types of
shields and armor that are within your skill level to construct.}

The options for containers are, in ascending order of difficulty: Boxes -
very small and can be closed, Crates - large and cannot be closed, Chests -
large and can be closed.

* Valid <weapontypes> include Blackjack, Club, 'Composite Bow',
Greatclub, 'Heavy Crossbow', Jo, Lance, 'Light Crossbow',
'Long Bow', Quarterstaff, 'Short Bow'

* Valid <shieldtypes> include 'Light Wooden Shield', 'Heavy Wooden Shield',
'Tower Shield'

* As indicated in the lists above, compound word weapon and shield
types must be entered in single quotes

* Valid [size] values are tiny, small, medium, large, huge, and gargantuan

* This trade now employs the new craft system. Please check the craft
process helpfile for details.

I wonder if Aysa refers to the tanning, fletching and bowmaking during the ranger quest. In that case I guess what you used were simply quest programs that are completely unrelated to the respective trades.

If that is the case I think Tallie needs to ask in game about where to learn those trades.

Power Attack Feat
=================
Syntax: Automatic

Prerequisites: 14 Strength

This feat allows you to make exceptionally powerful, if less carefully aimed,
melee attacks. Once you have this feat, you may enable it or disable it at
will, using COMBATMODE +power attack and COMBATMODE -power attack. When
active, you fight aggressively, with all your might; this reduces your chance
to hit, but greatly amplifies the damage you deal out when you do hit.

****This feat does not work with light weapons.****

Does power attack work with brawling?

Unarmed strikes and natural weapons do get the damage bonus from power attack in D&D, so I'd assume the same here. I could be mistaken, though.

I don't believe so. Maybe with empty hands where we don't see the stats but I think cestus are coded as light weapons. I'm not in game atm to test this right now, however nearly any fighter should be able to check for you.

Seems to affect unarmed attacks. Will not affect fist weapons though since they are light weapons and power attack here is loosely using the 3.5 version rather than the path finder version.

You need to make them large to be able to use power attack with cesti.

I can confirm that Power Attack does work with unarmed combat, but not with light weapons (including normal cestus/brass knuckles). You can not adjust the amount of power shift: it looks to be 2 on my test PC; that is, your attack rolls takes a -2 penalty and your damage roll gets 2 added to it.

2 and not 3? That's interesting. I have always gotten -3 +3 with one hand, -3 +6 with 2 handers.
