Eavesdrop

Post by Bellayana » Wed May 03, 2017 7:07 pm

Alright, so my proposal is this, since rogues can be a bit underpowered. I suggest the command:
eavesdrop <direction>. This will allow the rogue to hear anything being said, perhaps when the command is entered a spot check can be made, and those that succeed will recieve an echo of <someone> is eavesdropping from <direction>. Any comments or feedback is welcome! Many thanks.

Isn't that partly what hide and sneak are for? :)

The IC distances seem a bit problematic in this suggestion. The wilderness rooms aren't as close to another as they appear on the map
even if we as playersbat times forget that. The same with cities, it seems a bit difficult to me that one would be able to eavesdrop f.e. in
a busy market with a lot of different noise going on and many people moving around.

Haha fair point Areia, though with this it is the one check rather than two and Larethiel there are some skills in the game that require some prudence and caution (ie: Rangers using hide in cities) but there are some things that rogues could use and eavesdropping is nothing more than a glorified baneful similarity to clairvoyance. I only look at ways to maybe help the rogue class out some.

Rangers cannot use hide in cities currently, unless they do what is de facto a code abuse. As stated in the respective thread I find the limitation pointless and wish for them to have full hide, but that they "may hide only in the wild" is how things are.

Thats what I said, they have access to skills that they should practice prudence when using because it is considered "Poor RP" and thus the same with other skills and spells. Polymorph for wizards, stealing from someone while in polymorph is code abuse, Wizards have find the path, some priests do and bards, rogues have track and so I propose this eavesdrop, perhaps at a higher level to give them something to even the playfield.
