I've had a lot of fun roleplaying over the past week, but when I look at something like that I think I'm wasting my time here. This system is too damn punishing by default, and dying in a room that spawns a wolf every time you enter is just the ultimate demoralizer. The sky is warm and stormy and a warm southerly breeze blows.
The corpse of Lyndin is here. (superb)
A weathered man in dirty rags is here.
A large rabid wolf prowls here.
A large rabid wolf prowls here.
A large rabid wolf prowls here.
A large rabid wolf prowls here.
A wolf charges toward you!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf's bite deeply penetrates your chest.
A large rabid wolf's bite drives deeply in to your chest.
A large rabid wolf's bite deeply stabs your abdomen.
A large rabid wolf's bite impales you.
You stop using a platinum ring set with a blue diamond.
Someone weaves out of the way of your punch.
Someone's bite impales you.
Your severed left arm falls to the ground!
You prepare to flee ...
The day has begun.
A large rabid wolf's bite impales you.
A large rabid wolf's bite drills in to your chest.
You wish that your wounds would stop BLEEDING so much!
You step back out of the range of a large rabid wolf's jaws.
A large rabid wolf's bite drives deeply in to your chest.
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
A large rabid wolf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
...Everything begins to fade to black.
You feel yourself leaving your body... rising up into the air, you feel
more free than you have ever felt before...
However, before your deity comes to collect your soul, you feel a strange
pulling sensation as strange and colorful mists swirl around you...
A large rabid wolf's bite goes straight through your chest.

Re: Rabid Wolf Quest
You will find that not many quests have level limits. You can accept any quest you encounter for the most part. The only guidelines I could recommend for you would be HELP AREAS. There are low, mid, and high level areas listed as well as various other places. I would stick in your level range to avoid these kind of situations in general.
The world is not kind and gentle, and dieing is a reality. In your case, I wouldn't be out exploring the great wilds at such a low lvl (going off of your post on the amulet of comm thread so assuming your under 10). It does get much easier as you progress but you always have to be careful because there are plenty of things out there that can kill anyone pretty easily.
If you die, it's generally best to get help with a corpse recovery sometimes that means logging off and trying again later. No one is going to steal your corpse or your stuff, and if anything it will be recovered and delivered to the conservatory while your away. Charging back into the same place you died to get your corpse without changing any of the situational factors will almost always result in another death.
Lastly, just a friendly plug for the ASK channel if you havn't heard about it before. a great place within the game to pose questions for newer players

Re: Rabid Wolf Quest
And group, group, group! A lot of folks try to play FK like a single-
player game. You just can't. Plus, it's a lot more boring that way.
(This is a suggestion put forth for the benefit of the general FK community, no one player in particular.)

Re: Rabid Wolf Quest
Not that I disagree with any particular bit of wisdom shared here, but what makes this quest different than many other hazards easily reached by new players is that:
(a) the rooms spawn mobs in ambush, so you can't look before you leap and avoid trouble.
(b) the rooms spawn every time you enter, and these trigger rooms are adjacent, and have no limit. Lyndin, wimp that he was, managed to kill one wolf through underhanded tactics (and the brave sacrifice of his horse). Getting to safety when his 'flee' spawned more monsters was something else entirely. Putting a limit on that trigger seems like a reasonable suggestion to me?
Also, on a less serious note, Challenge Rating 1 my well-chewed butt.
Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention something, in regard to the advice that the best strategy is to log off and wait a while. There is a clause in the OPP help file that abandoned containers are fair game. Other players will (and did, in fact) steal shoulder-bags that get bitten off of a PC's body before they die. Maybe those shouldn't be a thing? I definitely am not buying another one. Lyndin was only level 9, but he still had dozens of potions, scrolls, and wands acquired from quests and other players. Kinda stings.

Re: Rabid Wolf Quest
Abandoned containers are indeed fair game, you are correct. However if its laying in the same room as a corpse it is effectively, at least in my mind part of the corpse. I would like to think that any of our players that came across such a scene would also assume this and place said bag, or any other items on the corpse and then proceed however their character would normally when encountering a corpse.
This is entirely different than just coming upon a bag laying somewhere by itself. If you leave a bag laying around and it has good stuff in it you are almost assuredly to have it rifled through or stolen/taken in its entirety. Abandoned items and a corpse with items laying around it are two entirely different things.

Re: Rabid Wolf Quest
A majority of our player base is aware of this and having things stolen randomly is uncommon. Though as with every mud, some people are either unaware or ethics aren't in alignment with the general population. Even with my character as evil as she is, I will attempt to go out of my way to help with death and whatnot even if it isn't necessarily in line with her own beliefs. No one likes sitting idly or being forced to do something else during a time when you'd rather be playing. But, we all play differently and don't agree on everything.Thurgan wrote:Abandoned containers are indeed fair game, you are correct. **Knew my thought was unfinished.
To add, you may also put out a request for lost items ICly through the note boards and what have you. It's possible someone saw the corpse, not the bag and lifted the corpse to safety and left the bag innocently. Not all situations are dastardly and nefarious. Plethora of options to how a situation comes about.
You'll shed your blood, your bodies fall. That is the price you'll pay to cleanse you of your sins. Vicious and cruel, let's kill them all.
Let's kill them all.
