Horse barding bug

I came across a piece of barding my mount is entirely incapable of equipping.
The item in question:

It is in good condition.
It is banded mail and is heavy armour.
It is almost too large for you to wear.
It can be picked up, worn on the arms.
It is worn as armour.
It is large in size and would fit a quadruped.
