So, been using a katana 2 handed (With Great Blade proficiency) And am a Journeyman in Gblades. It still shows -1 for hit bonus, meaning -4 total due to a +3 strength on score sheet, and the echo that "you do not even know which end of the katana is up". At apprentice rank, penalties go away for wielding a weapon, as you are considered proficient in it, or at least it always has before. Others have mentioned that there is a penalty for using one handed weapons 2 handed until a certain proficiency, but considering Katana and Bastard swords are made Great blades when used 2 handed, this should not be the case for them I feel. If it takes GMing gblades to be able to use katana/bastard in both hands as effectively as a two handed sword at apprentice, this is a bit of a deterrent in that sort of play style.
I would suggest coding them so that since they are considered great blades when used 2 handed that they do not have those penalties after apprenticing them. It may just be not many use this sort of playstyle for weapons, as most use them one handed, but I feel it is an oversight that should be looked into. This is my 2 copper on the matter.

Just to double check, your character has the exotic weapon proficiency feat for katanas?
Re: Katana/Bastard Swords 2Handed Penalties
That is for using katana 1 handed. Using them with both hands does not require said feat(or it should not) as it requires the special training to use them in a single hand and outside how they were made to be wielded. So no, I do not, because this character uses them as great blades.

Well, whether it should or not, it currently requires the exotic weapon proficiency feat to use katanas (and bastard swords) in either one hand or two.
Re: Katana/Bastard Swords 2Handed Penalties
Also, just to help clarify a little:
More on point, GMing greatblades doesn't currently allow you to wield bastard swords or katana any more accurately in both hands. It's either the feat or nothing, regardless of skill level.
There is no penalty for wielding 1h weapons 2h in general. My PCs generally do this for the slightly increased dmg at the very low levels, without a problem. The only time this becomes a thing is when you wield a weapon larger than it should be (e.g., a human wielding a large longsword). It can be done, but the normally 1h weapon becomes 2h and imposes an attack penalty.Ailyn wrote: Others have mentioned that there is a penalty for using one handed weapons 2 handed until a certain proficiency, but considering Katana and Bastard swords are made Great blades when used 2 handed, this should not be the case for them I feel. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

Definitely being caused by the lack of the exotic prof feat I do believe
