Demonography - Designing Demons

"If you stare into the abyss... remember your spectacles, you don't want to miss anything."

The Abyss is infinitely vast and infinitely vile in Its diversity. This is a contest to see whom can craft the most interesting specimen within Its chaotic layers. Is it the shepherd of the doomed, a harvester of souls, a guardian in a demonic citadel, a worm of corpses, a sentient war engine, a demonic hydra, or a foot soldier of the apocalypse? Wizards and scholars alike engage in this heretical research into one of the most forbidding realms of occult lore: compiling a demography.

Code: Select all

Short description: - The name of the Demon species.
Long description: - A Demon is here. How a Demon appears when looking at a room.
Main description: - What the Demon actually looks like, when looking at the Demon itself.
Monster size: - Tiny, gigantic, human-sized?
Monster type: - Tanar'i, Demonic Construct, Demonic Undead, Demonic Elemental?
Demon layer: - From which layer of the Abyss does it hale.
Demon lord: - To which demon Lord is it loyal to if any.
Demon rank: - What is its effective rank/power level, is it a grunt, an officer, a commander? Is it equal to a quasit or a marilith?
Preferred terrain: - Does it like caves, deserts, the arctic?
Movement type: Do they swim, fly? Agile, slow?
Demon stats: - Give us an idea of their relative strength and intelligence, etc. 10 is average human level.
Base Monster: - Have an idea what race we should use to build the Demon off of? Is it effectively a modified goblin?
Special abilities: - Does it turn invisible, use a specific kind of poison, cast a negative energy aura?
Combat tactics: Does it use slashing claw attacks, does it have preferred spells or position in combat?
Monster history: - General information of your demon, how did this strain come into existence, what was the first of its kind? General history/ecology/temperament.
Demonograph: Is there a particular ritual to summon it, to bind it? Does it have special weaknesses or aversions?
Use the above format for submitting entries. Up to five entries per player, submit them via application. This is for demonic species, but not full demon lords (or equivalent singular entities.) This means they are from the Abyss and are demonic, not devils or other fiends. The winner will receive a bonus enchantment on the item/character of their choice, as balance and code allows, as well as potentially their own demonic familiar and/or pact with a demonic power.
A goblin, a trickster, a warrior? A nameless terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. A most feared being in all the cosmos. Nothing could stop, hold, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.

The book will be seeded around the world. If you can find a copy of the Demonography, you may post your favourites here (that isn't your own submission.) The most favoured will take the fifth slot.

I really like the Bakunawa, gives me that classic sea monster vibe. The idea of sea serpents actually being demonic in nature appeals to me for some reason.
Aunwald Briggs - Magic and fun all in one!
RIP - Kulgar, your time came too early!
Velgar Ryekin - Honor is as honor does.

In alphabetical order, the Mer'goth, for its sheer grotesqueness and twist on the classic three-headed creature/three witches trope. I also particularly enjoyed the breakdown of what each head does in combat.

And, the Nittik, for the very inspired design of its appearance, along with a very well-written background and thought given to its motivations and personality traits.
