Contest of Squires
Contest of Squires
Squires of the Realms compete in contests of combat prowess, horsemanship, and knowledge! The event will be hosted by Sir Astley at the Halls of Justice. The squire who earns the most points will receive a reward. Subjectively, the squire who demonstrates the best RP for the event will also receive a reward. There are six active squires right now and it would be great to get all together in the same place!
Horse Race: squires will race along a predefined route and points will be awarded to the first (three points) and second (two points) place riders. (Squires must use a mortal horse. A squire can ride his or her own horse provided it is a mortal horse, or a squire may choose to ride one of the palfreys from the Halls of Justice.)
Knowledge Contest: squires will answer three questions derived from lesson material they have already completed with one point earned per correct answer. A squire may opt to forgo the three questions on known material for a single question in genre and setting; this question must be answered in 20 seconds time (counted in game), but a correct answer is worth four points.
Combat Contest: squires will pair up based upon their relative levels and the victor will earn two points. If there are any odd squires out then the squire will be paired with a combat trainer from the Halls of Justice.

That ought to work for me.

Count Stigr in!

Zhekrie will do his best to be there either to compete or to cheer on his brothers and sisters in arms!
Re: Contest of Squires
Something has somewhat come up for me. I will only have about an hour or so to participate, though I'll still make an appearance.

Re: Contest of Squires
I thought the event allowed for some great RP. It gave some great insight into the characters. And I loved how real everything was. Squires make mistakes, and there were plenty to go around. And yes, some of us got to eat a lot of crow... but it was a fun time to be had by all.
I got some ideas for a sequel... one that just came to me would be "Capture the Flag". Since there's a "lot" of squires - you could have 3 squires per team. It would give the squires a chance to "lead". They would have to come up with strategy. They would have to figure out a way to defeat an enemy, while protecting their own flag. I don't know how well it would translate onto the MUD, but something like that could be fun. It would allow for combat prowess, military strategy, and leadership skills.
Or if there are not enough squires for teams... maybe all the squires are on a team and they have to go up against 'mobs' / dummies or whatever. Just a thought. Could be fun, though.

Re: Contest of Squires
Have plans for this and a few other wargames already written up and pretty much ready. Just had to wait for enough combat-inclined squires to serve as captains and now just looking for a time where there's not a million other things going on. Keep eyes out for the announcement coming soon-ish!Aysa wrote: I got some ideas for a sequel... one that just came to me would be "Capture the Flag"
