Gods

Post by Althasizor » Thu Oct 11, 2018 1:39 am

I recently stumbled across a YouTube channel with a tooon of videos exploring different aspects of the Realms. Of particular interest to me was the series on the Pantheon, explaining in a few minutes a great deal of information about the gods, their worshipers, and their place in the Realm:

I found that while I did know most of the information shared in these videos, there was a lot of little things I didn't that make the world feel more alive to me. The video linked above in particular, there's a moment where he says: ".. Lliirans are some of the smoothest diplomats, also. And often speak to rulers and wealthy merchants of how useful the Church of Lliira is at keeping the common people happy." which makes her worship sound much wider spread and influential than is usually portrayed here!
What are you talking about? What, that guy?
That was like that when I got here.

I didn't want to make a new thread for this, but here's another cool channel for D&D/FR. MrRhexx on YouTube does a lot of videos on different monsters and lore for the setting, compiling information from different sources and usually citing where it's from as he goes. He has a very bingeable "What they don't tell you about ____" series, the ones on dragons in particular, and a series of videos on elves and high magic. Cool stuff.

As someone who is likely much too interested in elves, I decided to watch "What They Don't Tell You About Elves" by the MrRhexx that was posted above. The person does a good job at what they are explaining, but much of it isn't relevant to Forgotten Kingdoms. The whole stuff about reincarnation is new lore that was introduced in 5e that was apparently done to try to reconcile some of the vast changes done in 4e with lore from earlier versions.
Just wanted to give that heads-up in case there are any players new to elves here. Beyond that, his video seems well researched and well done.

Good catch! Yeah, these videos are recent and include lore from 4E/5E. Most of the time it's easy to spot, but maybe not for newer players. Alinor, you might like "The Strongest Spell in D&D" video better. He has a bit at the front explaining reverie vs. sleeping a little, but the rest of the video is High Magic rituals. We'll never use those so it isn't very useful, but it's fun to think about. :)

I plan to check some of his other videos out because I'm sure they'd be interesting. I noticed one dedicated to High Magic as a whole and there's always something new that can be learned.
