Tailoring and layers
Tailoring and layers
What would the thoughts be of allowing those with leatherworking, clothes making, etc. to be able to tailor the layer of an item as well as its size?
For example, say one wanted to tailor a shirt slightly tighter to fit underneath a vest or jerkin, or sleeves to fit beneath a set of armbands, or perhaps size a padded or leather tunic to fit underneath a breastplate. Or even better, allowing tailoring of sheaths, containers, et al to fit in different layers of the belt, or go underneath a sleeve/trouser leg, etc.
I can see where allowing certain things to fit close to the skin, or over other armour could be OOC or abused, but many more that are quite IC and practical. Perhaps limit the weight or material of items that couls be tailored to other layers, so that we don't have someone tailoring three breastplates to layer under each other.
It would also allow for an IC way to deal with the occaisional object glitch where it unexplainedly changes its layer, and one would like to put it back on the right layer. Hm, must have gained a llittle weight, better take this to a tailor PC to get it let out a little.

While I'm nearly certain the code wont support this without a major overhaul, I will offer another idea to the "Good idea" "Bad idea".
And its nice and simple:
Cloth items only.
In my opinion, just because the idea is not complete, doesnt make it a bad idea.

Far away and across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell.
Isn't mithril supposed to be lighter than iron? The SRD says that heavy armor made of mithril is treated as medium armor. Also that armor made of mithril weighs half as much as the same item made of other metals.Hviti wrote:Also, even though you might never get hit with 3 layers of mithril, having that much heavy armor might be pretty bad for those abilities that can be hindered by armor.

Eh, Taerom... I think I already did, in my first post.Taerom wrote:I just felt I had to point it out.

I do have a question about clothing and was unsure where to place it. If I am in the wrong spot, I am sorry.
I've noticed that it seems the layers I wear closer to my skin get damaged first in combat. Example: If I am wearing a silk chemise and over that a studded bustier, in battle the chemise gets most of the damage.
Is this due the fragile nature of the clothing, or are the mobs I fight just perverts and trying to undress me?

Force equals friction, and friction equals damage, it could be claimed icly that your over clothing will shield you well and bare the brunt of an attack, but, your inner clothing will suffer frictious wearing down as the attacks continue. Basically the body is its own worst enemy, as sweat, toil and shape affects the overall state of the inner clothing. On a good note, socks still abide though steel is strong.

Actually, it is because the silk is a less durable material, code-wise and ICly. The code cannot determine that it is an underlayer, only that you are wearing it and its durability value is "silk." When you get hit in the chest/stomach both your studded leather and your silk shirt "get hit" and since the studded leather is more durable then the silk shirt, the silk will damage more.
