equipment condition text

Post by Eltsac » Fri Jul 14, 2006 4:33 pm

Well... it might be a stupid idea, but i wonder if it would not make an improvement to remove the '(condition)' after an equipment piece (when looking at someone or typing equip) when the item is in perfect condition, and only add it when the item is broken.

I think it would be easier to see what is broken and what is not, and in another hand, i feel that it would make it more clear, maybe less spamming, when looking at someone who is wearing perfect clothing.

Just an idea :)

Or perhaps instead of Perfect, very good, good and such, they can be revised, to flawless, chipped, dented and so on?

This would add more coding to do, plus I dont see why the current code should be changed. Right now it is simple enough for players to see what needs to be repaired.

Well of course if it's too much work no need to bother about it :p

I positively love the idea of not seeing (perfect) and only seeing the others. Less wall of text when you look at someone = better. :)

Why would cloth be chipped or dented? :x

When it's frozen with nitro.....

Wait. Wrong game. Fantasy, Mari, Fantasy. :)

I actually do not care one way or another. To be honest, half the time I forget about my equipment and then it falls off on me in the middle of battle.. OR I end up in a battle that seriously one shots it off of me cause the npc's always attack the same piece of equipment. (Hello Caelyvar and her pants!)

Anyways, I don't find it a big deal.

Perhaps a color change, when equipment gets damaged so you can know what needs to be repaired, or for rp reasons you can see what really needs to be addressed.

I don't think we want to mess with the color of equipment. Some people try to get all matching equipment and that would just drive them crazy.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

I didn't mean the whole line of text, just the part that shows the condition of the armour.

EX: <worn on body> a hellcat hide studded armour (perfect) <---This part would be yellow, and every condition lower would have a different color.

especially if it's red and then you are wearing pink.

Or like all black and it turns pink, for slightly damaged.

I bet some of the warriors would not appreciate it nearly as much. :)

I am sure it is possible to have different types, Cause there is Heavy armour, leather, and cloth, but I am sure leather and Cloth could be the same, Like, frayed, torn, and such

I think the original post came closest to my idea of a workable change.

That is:
<worn on body> a scorched leather jerkin (perfect)
<worn on head> a studded leather helm (perfect)
<worn on legs> studded leather leggings (perfect)
<worn on feet> studded leather boots (perfect)
<worn on hands> reinforced leather gloves (perfect)
<worn on arms> studded leather sleeves (perfect)
<worn about waist> a studded leather belt (perfect)
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer (perfect)
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer (perfect)
<left hand> a small steel shield (perfect)
<right hand> a brass-hilted falchion (perfect)
would appear as
<worn on body> a scorched leather jerkin
<worn on head> a studded leather helm
<worn on legs> studded leather leggings
<worn on feet> studded leather boots
<worn on hands> reinforced leather gloves
<worn on arms> studded leather sleeves
<worn about waist> a studded leather belt
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<left hand> a small steel shield
<right hand> a brass-hilted falchion
and only show the additional information if an item became damaged thus
<worn on body> a scorched leather jerkin (awful)
<worn on head> a studded leather helm
<worn on legs> studded leather leggings
<worn on feet> studded leather boots
<worn on hands> reinforced leather gloves
<worn on arms> studded leather sleeves (terrible)
<worn about waist> a studded leather belt
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<left hand> a small steel shield (good)
<right hand> a brass-hilted falchion
Adding colour might be no more work to the code than setting it to only show less than perfect, but the results in my opinion would be icky to say the least.

The forum colours arent quite as smooth as those in game, but here's what coloured warnings would look like for an average coulered set of gear
<worn on body> a scorched leather jerkin (awful)
<worn on head> a studded leather helm
<worn on legs> studded leather leggings
<worn on feet> studded leather boots
<worn on hands> reinforced leather gloves
<worn on arms> studded leather sleeves (terrible)
<worn about waist> a studded leather belt
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<worn around wrist> a studded leather bracer
<left hand> a small steel shield (good)
<right hand> a brass-hilted falchion

Yes, thanks a lot, that was the idea i had in mind (with the color or not).

Would be great for me :)

Eltsac

ps : And another idea i came up with, if it's easy to change at the same time, would be to put the 'belt' slot down a few lines to be with the 'on the belt' slots... not much change, but i keep searching for my belt when looking at my equipment :p

I'm understanding now... I wouldn't mind that... or when you are looking at someone or even yourself... you don't see the condition of the eq at all... but when you type eq (equipment) you the the condition...

EDIT: I am still iffy about the color

I do like the idea Eltsac, only without the color. :)

{EDIT: Eltsac didn't want colour, Sparlen did ;). Kelemvor}

I could see through a point of veiw, were yes in a way the color could be considered alright. However, I in my opinon if your wears get damaged I do not think the color should change. To me, it would just appear bothersome.

Just as Mele said,

Tagging on Eltsac's little off-topic venture, I'd like to suggest that the slots be arranged from head to toe, so to speak.

I realise as I write that the jewellery would probably be best off where it is, but the clothing could be edited to something like:

head
neck
body
arms
legs
feet
waist(?)

I'm a big fan of dressing my chars up, and sometimes when you do upper/lower body colours, things end up scattered across the list and it looks off.

I was thinking when removing an item of clothing, the slot in which the clothing is removed disappears. What if it was changed to when clothing was removed the slot stays, and Nothing, or bare flesh is left there, just for rp purposes. I would like to walk around the city, without a shirt. :P

Well, maybe, but how about only legs and body areas? After a while, you have so many clothing slots, you'd end up with a wall of text. And that = icky. :P
