Identify Corpse.

Post by Athon » Fri Feb 03, 2006 11:02 pm

Not a D&D spell to my knowledge, but this could be useful for priests when it comes to raisings. It's as simple as it sounds: You cast it on the corpse of the PC and it tells you name and possibly the adjective of the PC. This could really help those priests that have a corpse of someone they don't know.

Thoughts? Comments? Criticisms?

Thanks

Actually... that is a function of the tabletop Speak with Dead. One of the things you could divine from a corpse is its name, in fact, any knowledge that the spirit that belongs to the corpse possesses. How this spell will ultimately work is still being hashed out. I believe the general opinion is that it does need to be more functional.

I know it's possible to tell who a corpse belongs to, because when you drop it at the feet of an auto-priest, if the corpse's owner is signed on, the priest will use the corpse's name when you type "heal."

A good thing to add, for a game that recommends PC raisings. The same reason druids can raise dead in FK, when they cannot in D&D tabletop. I'll be discussing the raise dead revamp more in the coding discussions.

This could also fall under forensic knowledge, basically identifying a body by getting it to speak a name, maybe could work under a forensic trade?
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

After some experiences in trying to help raise those who might not know anyone yet, or their allies are not on, I had an idea.

What if the Speak with Dead prayer allowed the caster to gain a view at who is on the fugue plane. Thus giving us a chance to figure out who's corpse we've come across, and if they want to return to life.

I can easily enough use area code to allow someone who is affected by speak with dead to take a peek in the Realms of the Dead.

Identifying corpses would take hard code though, but it would most likely be simple enough to make it so that those affected by speak with dead see something like
The corpse of a halfling (Alfred) lies here.
instead of
The corpse of a halfling lies here.
