Interesting idea...

Spend 0% of your time roleplaying, and your skills increase at the normal 100% rate.

Spend 25% of your time roleplaying, and your skills increase at 133% rate.

Spend 50% of your time roleplaying, and your skills increase at 200% rate.

Spend 75% of your time roleplaying, and your skills increase at 400% rate.

And so on. Obviously, you'd have to define exactly what is "time spent roleplaying".

I'd nearly say that I like this idea very much, if it didn't reduce its chances of being coded. ;)

hmm those numbers confuse me.. in normal standards..what is the % raise chance and such? I mean not super fast but not super slow would be a cool medium. I mean when I first started playing..skills could go up two or three times a day. While now it takes weeks to get some to go up once or twice. A medium between here and there. While those who are rewarded for good rp could come with a bonus learning rate and such? Especially during events and the like when those who are part of it are getting others involved and such? ^^ the 300% learning rate and such to me number wise that looks like waay to high even the 100% rate looks high to me but yea. Good rewards for roleplaying would be nice. I myself don't rp as much as I have seen others roleplay. While I have friends who get on aim tell me to log on with a char so they could sit down in an inn or sometimes and rp with them just being drunk or horseplaying and so on...I think I am rambling on so..im ending it here! ^^

Ah to clarify. Time spent roleplaying could be those helping newbies in an ic fashion. While some are just chit chatting it up. That or those who are out fighting and adventuring but keep up the ic chatter and such without making it purely hack n slash?

I like the idea of skills/spells/trades increasing dependent on your TOTAL kismet. Not current, not spent, but TOTAL. That way, the total time spent playing, rewarded by IMMs, and other players come into the factor. Do you, as an IMM, think a character should be able to up his skills because he does fantastic RP? Toss him a reward or two. Do you as a player think the town crier needs to up his haggling skills because he's just that great of an RPer? Reward him with some kismet.
I think kismet may be the best way to allow great RPed characters the chance to level up their skills to the best of their ability.
We already reward characters with tons of RP (kismet) the ability to make rare/planetouched/sub-races, why not allow them to increase their skills at an added rate higher than the hack and slashers who log on for 2 hours a day to grind up the ogre pit in Hartsvale?
I think this is a GREAT idea that would spur TONS of RP so people could advance their skills, and the faster they RP and get rewarded, the faster they get the chance to up their skill levels and get tougher.
My 2 cents,
Aldren.

I personally would love that since I do not play odd races.
I think my only character that cost me any kismet was my sunelf. Whee. It wasnt' that much to do it.

It just sits there, accumulating.
;) I do love it though. It seems like a sense of accomplishment. (They like me.. they really like me!)
Confusion heard his voice, and wild uproar Stood ruled, stood vast infinitude confined;
Till at his second bidding darkness fled, Light shone, and order from disorder sprung.

Hmm Just remember. There are newbies and other people who try and bust there butt because they love to rp but ..well lack thereoff in some of those skills in it. Heck I am not the best rper in the world but I try..and enjoy my time doing it.

Personally, I find Dalvyn's idea very entertaining. Many, many hours I spent on Selveem training skills because RPing 'swings' with other people (even without resorting to in-game 'murder' or other PVP commands) does absolutely nothing for your skill increases. Reference: Selveem considered Lathlain to be his equal in combat grace, yet code-wise, Lathlain was a much newer character who if I remember correctly barely had third attack. Selveem was a very prominent member of his faith and because of the time I invested in the faith, many members came to me for guidance IC.

Honestly, I understand countless people felt he was a 'twink.' But, really, I find that rather humorous. I spent a _lot_ of that time social networking, learning about the faith, visiting the various temples, questing, aiding lowbies/newbies, RPing with enemies. I know many of you spent a lot of time playing your characters and you love them very much. Selveem was my favorite. He was always the one I could turn to, as emotionless as he was, when I needed a _really_ good roleplay. Many consider the equipment he had gained and the 'speed' he gained his skills to be quite twinkish. What they did not take into account were the following:

+ Selveem has 1862 hours, alone.

+ Selveem is human and code-wise, an hour OOC is a _large_ portion of his life-span in consideration to say.. an Elf.

+ Selveem is a soldier of Tempus. Members of such a faith are _expected_ to excel in battle. (OMG, samurai spent their entire lives fighting! Freaking twinks.)

+ Selveem has spent at _least_ half of those hours in roleplaying with others. He is fairly quiet, but to characters such as Ceara, he has a very deep personality.

+ Selveem has helped many a newbie or lowbie complete low level quests that are important for their advancement ICly (think: wizards).

+ Selveem is my favorite character. As such, I have spent my longest time playing him. I wanted him of all of my characters to succeed.

Did I level him quickly? Honestly, I don't even remember. Did I spend countless hours fighting many different mobs? Oh, I assure you I did. And I take pride that I invested that time in him.

Does any of this matter? No.

What it all boils down to is 'Will this player be fair with other players?' Now, if the answer is no.. Why have you come here anyhow?

I think, personally, leveling here is great. I don't always _want_ to level. My favorite little Halfling, Fox, is still fairly low level. Does he act it? No, no way. He's a hardened little fighter and will rush to the aid of whichever side has the most/prettiest females! Would he die code-wise? Prolly. Who cares? *shrug*

In my opinion, I would rather see our coders spending their time on things to make the game even more fun and dynamic. This is an AWESOME place. This game has AWESOME people who I even kept in contact over my entire 3 year break from FK (mostly due to real life leveling).

Instead of concentrating our efforts on hampering aspects of the game, let's focus on things that really matter and help _everyone_.

That is all!
