Thinking, Thoughts, and Thunk?
Thinking, Thoughts, and Thunk?
'ello there. I'm new to the forums for starters. But, I have an idea for a interesting RP tool. A think channel. Yes, A think channel. Use for IC thoughts that'd be sent to the immortals. Sure it'd probably get spammy, but I assume Imms probably have alot of spam anyway. But it'd be a fun little tool to use when issueing silent prayers or even go into as detailed as spells. But also to be used realisticly, such as You think "Hmmm..She is rather beautiful" or "I wonder what he's doing..." Or Even "Thog like bunnies...Cute bunnies. They furry and bunnies."
It'd be a very fun channel, and would work with any race. It couldn't be used for OOC communication to the imms because Think is to be used for Character thoughts.
Think about this for a while(No pun intended).

I've seen this implemented on elseMU* and was used to acrue "RP points", kinda like the reward system we have here.
From an imm perspective I don't know how spammy it got, but it worked fairly well I guess. There's been several times i've wished that we had a system like this here, but there's probably bigger fish to fry at the moment..

What matters the most is how well you walk through the fire.
I only see one problem with this suggestion, that could likely be resolved just by adding an automatic parser or the like. It could get extremely space-consuming. As well as with the in-game implementation of this, it could take up a lot of space. I'm not sure it would go over too well when you have a limited amount of space that could be used more efficiently for areas, skills, and other rp-enhancing features
"My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to survive."
Not sure the MUD doesn't have enough for a small channel like that. Also, why would we want a forum think channel for things that happen on the MUD? That wouldn't make much sense, because How I see it, the think channel is for the MUD, for things that happen ON the MUD icly. Random thoughts, Orcs thinking stupidly, or silent prayers. Sure theres smote and stuff, but it'd make alot of sense to have a think channel.

For silent prayers, we already have the "pray" command.
Note that "smote"/"emote" shouldn't be used to express feelings or thoughts: PCs generally do not always carry around magical mind probes. "smote looks like he is feeling very glum today. is fine, but "smote thinks that two platinum is too high a price for a potion of cure light wounds." is not.
We also have "ask" for players who would like to require an imm's assistance with a roleplay (note that imms are more likely to answer a "call for roleplay" that involves a group of players than an individual "call for roleplay").
That being said, I have never been on a mud with a "think" channel (though they know they exist). Can you perhaps give examples where this channel would be used and neither pray, smote or ask work?

Or as I have seen it. (Example)
Princess Frinnypoo walks in wearing a wide hoop skirt made of lime green, mauve, and dung brown silk.
You say to Princess Frinnypoo "My you look great today!"
(Thought) What did she do, get dressed in the dark? She looks like a pig that's been attacked by gypsies.

From my limited experience of this command it can be used to state the intent of an action where this may not be immediatley clear. Especially useful i would think some in cases where PK may result. And i dont think that any of the other channels quite covers this though i think Tell self does.
For example...
Player A walks straight upto player B who he has never met before and starts throwing insults for no apparent reason
Player A thinks This scum insulted my mother/cousin two weeks ago i will have satisfaction.
Thus giving his own internal reason for what may seem to be un IC behaviour. Revealing to the IMM's what may not be readily knowable to anyone else but him.
or ...
Player A is about to try and sneak into Waterdeep an area that he is not welcome.
Player A thinks I desperatley need item X to fulfill my debt. The only place i can get it is Waterdeep i have to take the risk.
or on a nicer note.
Player A has just completed some task and is deleriously happy
player A thinks thank god that is over i am going to go and seriously party....
Thus explaining why an otherwise sober character is found face down in the market square with no cloths 10 minutes later after giving all there the money to a begger and dancing a jig on the fountain.
Whether the IMM's who see this channel regard it as sufficent justification for the actions is another question but it does reveal the characters thought at the time of the actions rather than having to justify them at a later date.
