[Spell] Deafness
Similar to blindness... but deafness.
A deafened character cannot hear. She takes a -4 penalty on initiative checks, automatically fails Listen checks, and has a 20% chance of spell failure when casting spells with verbal components.
Any says, sayto infront of a character would look like:
Japcil's lips move but you hear no sounds.
Listen check should never succeed while affected by this spell.
The only bypass would be using smotes, but I think we have a playerbase that is understanding and would RP accordingly.

I may be misunderstanding what the spell does in game as compared with my tabletop understanding... so I sha'n't take offense at you pointing out the obvious

Is silence single person targetted in FK as opposed to an area effect?D20 wrote:Silence
Illusion
Level: Brd 2, Clr 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area: 20-ft.-radius emanation centered on a creature, object, or point in space
Duration: 1 min./level (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates; see text or none (object)
Spell Resistance: Yes; see text or no (object)
Upon the casting of this spell, complete silence prevails in the affected area. All sound is stopped: Conversation is impossible, spells with verbal components cannot be cast, and no noise whatsoever issues from, enters, or passes through the area. The spell can be cast on a point in space, but the effect is stationary unless cast on a mobile object. The spell can be centered on a creature, and the effect then radiates from the creature and moves as it moves. An unwilling creature can attempt a Will save to negate the spell and can use spell resistance, if any. Items in a creature’s possession or magic items that emit sound receive the benefits of saves and spell resistance, but unattended objects and points in space do not. This spell provides a defense against sonic or language-based attacks.

Silence I believe is a single target here. The difference is this, the silence spell prevents noise from being made, deafness doesn't allow someone to hear that noise being made. The affected person can make all the noise they want but they are harder to comprehend since they cant hear them self talk.
Yes, silence is not area of affect on FK, it is on tabletop.
I really like the spell It is very similar with blindness, only that it affects some other senses. I could see it as being used in RPs as well or on traps or something or the other.
Group walks into a trap:
Warrior:I think we just hit a trap
Priest: What?
Warrior I THINK WE JUST HIT A TRAP
Priest: WHAT? I CAN"T HEAR YOU, I THINK WE JUST HIT A TRAP!

Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

Picture how distressing it would be to see:
Soandso says to you, "".
Soandso tells you, "". (Since tells are in fact, considered auditory now, not just mental)
etc...
When you're trying to communicate something between each other. And there would be the sting to a deafness spell. Basically, only the person(s) affected would be affected, everyone else in the room could talk, chant, etc to their hearts content.

I think that example should only happen when the two involved are in the same room. If they're using the amulet away from each other it is solely mental. Unless you mean the person talking into the amulet has a chance to garble what they are trying to say to the amulet?
Not a big fan of that. I can muffle my ears and speak just fine. I tested it with my roommate.
