Weight of coins:

Post by Selveem » Sat Sep 08, 2007 11:08 pm

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else noticed that the weight of coins seems to have gone up quite a bit? I know that every coin is technically supposed to weigh 1 ounce of its base material. When you go around carrying 100 copper, that's a LOT! But, in most cases in D&D that weight is not calculated (mostly because it's a very fluctuating amount).

In the MUD, some coins get proper weight (AKA: silver) but others (AKA: copper) do not go by that. What I suggest is that all coin weigh a very insignificant amount or that the banking fees are removed. It's already been made in this MUD to be very hard to earn coin once you've done most of the quests (especially as a wizard) and not being able to stash one's own coin without a very hefty fee (10% is a lot - especially considering the cost markup for buying stuff).

I like this idea. The weight of coins doesn't really make much of a difference to me. But if a banker was charging me 10% interest to hold my coin, he would never see it.

And, in fact, they don't. Except for a token amount in case I die and need to buy pants. (Learned that the hard way).

With the change in xp I have seen an increase in my PC's bank accounts. I think the monetary system works fine the way it is, but of course I am always open to change.

Changing coins to a different type, without depositing them, is free - so there's never any reason to carry around more than a handful of any lesser-value coin once one nears a bank! Just change your copper for silver, silver for electrum, and so on, or change everything up to platinum.

I have noticed coins weigh quite a lot so I've been having to put them in the bank, then I suddenly drop 40lbs carry weight, and the total value of the coins isn't that high but I don't know what the numbers are.
