Sneak

The way that the sneak skill currently works and be confusing and deceptive at times. When the skill is initially used, it sets the users speed to SNEAK, however a speed at this setting does not necessarily mean that the skill is actually being used. If the user types vis, is involved in combat, etc... they are no longer considered to be sneaking, though their speed remains at that setting, and to everyone else it looks as if they have merely failing every sneak check. This can cause confusion for the user in that it appears that the skill is being used when in actuality it is not.

I'm proposing that when your sneak skill fails, it automatically sets your speed back to walk/fly.

I agree that something should be done concerning the sneak skill.

I was tucked away in one of my favorite hideouts, when all of a sudden a NPC yelled saying they found me, and after interacting for a while, an authority figure showed up in attempt to peacefully arrest me. As they were walking towards me to hand me some shackles in hopes that I would apprehend myself, I took a few steps back shaking my head saying "Oh no, you're going to have to work alot harder than that". Then I typed 'vis' and set my speed to run, and got out of Dodge, so to speak.

Just a moment later, I was transferred back to the spot because the Imm inside the NPC saw the sneak echo, whereas the authority figure didn't see anything.

Needless to say, sneaking out of the room while in plain sight is indeed very poor form, yet I took measures to prevent it.

I really hate sneaking when I'm not trying to be sneaky, because it just looks suspicious when I'm sneaking around town for no appearant reason, and then being obvious be it by speaking, acting, etcetera.
