[COMMAND] Join

Post by Vibius » Fri Feb 08, 2008 7:57 pm

Syntax: Join <character name>

This command forces you to attack whoemever is attacking the character you have chosen.

If you are fighter you will likely want to focus in a mob that is being attacked by a member of your group so this mob falls sooner, rather than each member attacking a different mob and thus all mobs living longer.

Also this skill would shine making thieves flank easier, since they attack a mob that is being attacked by a party member.

This suggestion comes from the fact that is often hard target the mob that is attacking a partner if they are many instances of the same mob (There are four copies of "a smelly kobold")

A somewhat similar suggestion would be adding the skill tumble (syntax: tumble <character name>) which would force the mob that is attacking you to attack a member of your group instead.

It seems to be very similar to the Group-command?
Weit in der Champagne im Mittsommergrün,
dort, wo zwischen Grabkreuzen Mohnblumen blühn,
da flüstern die Gräser und wiegen sich leicht
im Wind, der sanft über das Gräberfeld streicht.

Also, I worry...I'd hate to see this work like some of the mobs who will join you, then attack you. Its terrible when that happens with say...a guard, or a quest-mob
Far away and across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell.

Sounds very similar to rescue?

Yes, but you can "choose" who "rescues" you and when does it, that is assuming that the character succeeds on the tumble check. This is a skill that would make the life of rogues more fun (and longer).

I think basically what this command is suggested to be like -is- very similar to rescue, however it's more of an offensive rescue. In a situation where you are facing a large group of enemies (2 or more, really), it can get confusing as to what party members are attacking what. You could use the "join" command to attack whatever enemy one of your party members is attacking - limit the command to group members only, and do not take the focus of the monster from the other member, merely take yours to it.

In essence, it'd be like:
You join $partymember against $enemyattackingpartymember!

This could easily be the assist command like most other muds have instead of auto assisting. I wish there was a manual assist command so I can turn off auto assist and not have to worry when i type kill <blah blah> and attack the wrong one. I have had quests as have quite a few others due to assisting and slaying a mob that you dont want to kill! <.<

Not sure I would want the group leader to have that power.

I know sometimes, when a large group of NPCs is attacking your group, sometimes, regardless of which NPC is attacking the leader, I start attacking the biggest, ugliest NPC to get that NPC out of the way...

Hope that makes sense...

No power to the group leaders, just the individuals. And it'd have to be optional - it's not always a good idea to split up, or not to split up. A tactical command. :D

It would be extremely useful for thieves so they can attack the monster that is being attacked by a member of your party and so being able to make a sneak attack, because when in a fight with many mobs is way easier type join bob than kill 2.orc (and target the right mob when more than two of the same type)

Also it might help the melee characters in a party focusing their attacks in a single mob, making as well the combat a bit more interactive.
