Invincible 'Animate object'

Post by Pakur » Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:58 pm

Normally, I am able to cast 'animate object' on an item, and when its charm wears off, I am able to kill it in one or two attack rounds. However, if I leave the animated object alone for some time, for about a day or so, and come back and engage it in combat, it doesn't lose any hitpoints, and doesn't attack back. If you have any specific questions for me, you can email me at RSchwabe@mail.com

I've been coming across these things in relatively low level areas and witnessing them decimating player characters. Ridiculous things like animated maps and weapons. I would advise players to avoid creating more of these animated objects and abandoning them all over the mud until this situation is fixed.

In the past there was a previous post about something similar to this. It seemed as if there was a bug that if a character recieved non-combat damage (ie. falling, drowning etc.) it was possible for an item the character had/wore became animated. Didnt know if it is related, so just trying to help.

Should an animated object just crumble to dust after its infusion with magic fades?

I would prefer said animated item merely be dusted after a set duration rather than stay and risk killing random folks by accident. Makes sense really, since we have similar failsafes on other 'creation' spells like monster summon and conjure elemental.

Animated Objects

Post by Elenthis » Sat Apr 11, 2009 12:23 am

Today I animated a wooden spear, taken from one of the goblins in the howling peaks. Upon animating it, I recieved a "You've improved" message, and moved several rooms with it following me. When I stopped, the spear stopped following me, presumably due to the short duration of the spell. The spear did not, however, disintigrate as they have for me in the past. I attempted to order it several times, to no avail. So in order to cease the existence of the now-living spear, I attempted to kill it. Much to my dismay, the spear seemed to have an infinate supply of hitpoints. Also, it did not attack me in return. An imm did delete, slay, or otherwise remove it for me. If you have any questions, please PM me, see me in game, or Email me at Elenthis27@yahoo.com

Thanks

This was discussed previously without any real conclusions being made. This is a chronic issue, but it appears to be a hard coded issue regarding the mechanics of the spell.

I saw a case maybe two weeks ago where someone animated a sword. When the spell wore off the sword stopped being their minion, but did not disappear and the character was unable to kill it or hurt it at all.

animate object

Post by Eltsac » Wed Nov 03, 2010 1:13 am

When I try to animate an object, I got the message :
'You cannot cast that... yet.'

Is the number of times you can animate an object limited in time?

In this case, the help file should be updated in this way.

I get "We didn't finish that one yet..." which I think may be the truth! It is missing most of the items from its spell table that a normal spell would have.

Anyone know more about this than we do?

I know you used to be able to cast it. I think there may have been a problem with people animating things they really shouldn't be. Another issue may have been that did not scale properly and gave only generic stats to anything that was animated. For instance, the bigger the item animated, the more powerful the "animated object" is in battle! :D

Alright.

Just wondered as I already used it before, so I thought it was working.

I think it might have been disabled due to the invincible animated objects that Anguin linked to.

Thanks everyone! Likely related issue is open as bug 875. I expect the spell will remain non-functional until the carry-on effect is resolved...whenever the coder time to see to it. I'm taking this report on to the post Anguin identified.

Thanks again, everone!
