Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
Yes; however, invokers and transmuters already have two barred schools, whereas at least abjurers (and possible more? have only one). IMO all the specialists should either have two barred schools or one; otherwise the deck is stacked even more against those with extra barred schools. Also, specialists ideally should have the ability to cast their nonguild spells as well as mages (but that's discussed in the other thread).

If Hviti will pardon me answering for him, I'm pretty sure that the thread he's talking about is ...

Furthermore, is there a way to confirm whether or not they are indeed set in that way?
Could I ask if the matter of whether wizard guild barred schools are properly assigned could be cleared up?Kregor wrote:Marty can Smile

B) Do/should some schools have different numbers of barred schools? If not, can this be changed appropriately?

Another thread resurrected - maybe I should have been a Kelemvorite instead . I believe the question is specifically for Mask, given the previous responses to this thread - but an answer from any quarter would be most appreciated.

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
Been a few months, thought it worth a bump. Original question is still unanswered.
Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
I also would like to know.
From what I understand, only Transmuter and Invoker have two forbidden schools?

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
As it stands I believe that is still the case. I can confirm transmuters still have two barred schools. Can't speak for invokers, but I would guess since Hviti is bumping this, it is for them too.

Question(s) still remain...might be beating a dead horse at this point, but maybe someone who knows the answer will see/answer these.

*gentle nudge*
Giving this another bump so Hviti doesn't have to! On a purely selfish note I'm getting to that 'deciding on a school' stage of a young wizard's life and I'm slightly saddened that at this point there doesn't appear to be much to recommend a specialist over a mage, other than the RP goodness of course.

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
Alright, I did some looking into this to answer Hviti's first question. Note that this is from cross checking the helpfiles and confirming the results with some players of a few (not all) of the different classes. As far as I can tell, this is accurate.
Class.....................Barred from
Invoker................Conjuration/Enchantment
Transmuter...........Abjuration/Necromancy
Illusionist.............Necromancy
Enchanter.............Evocation
Necromancer.........Illusion
Conjurer...............Evocation
Abjurer................Transmutation
If anyone has any of these classes and the schools barred are incorrect, please post to let me know.

Thanks Tavik! Do you know if this is what the helpfiles currently indicate to be the case? (If you don't know, I'll take the time to confirm it!)Tavik wrote:Class.....................Barred from

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
In a round about sort of way, yes, the helpfiles do agree with that. In fact, I put that chart together using the helpfiles and then talked to other players to confirm it as best I could. The problem is that I can't find anywhere that states what school is barred from which other school(s). I had to look up a spell from each school which states what other schools CAN'T cast that spell, so I was basically working backwards to put that little chart together. It would be nice for each of the school's main helpfiles to include the barred schools in them so players know a head of time what they'll be losing out on.

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
Well, quite off subject. But I think It would be great if the spells would be on the helpfiles of the certain school. I.e Necromancy help file would have a file Necromancy Spells inside it, which would list the current nercomancy spells that are in the game. Would make easier to see what spells you can't learn and which you can be good at.

Not off-subject, but appreciably more challenging. The maintainer of the spell helpfiles does read these forums, though, and I trust will add this to their to-do list! Thank you for the suggestion.Sithiel wrote:Well, quite off subject. But I think It would be great if the spells would be on the helpfiles of the certain school. If that's correct, then every school except Invoker and Transmuter is missing a barred school. If that's not some in-house rule, could that please be changed (i.e. either removing a barred school from those two or adding one to the other 5)?

Re: Wizard Specialists - Barred Schools
I'd like to thank all concerned for looking into this. As noted in previous Imm posts we had similar expectations; that all schools of magic should have two opposing schools.
The fix required involves a hard code change so I'll pass on the details to Mask.
My request will be that the schools are opposed as follows;
