More helpfile errors
More helpfile errors
Am I out of it again, or was there a thread to list helpfile errors somewhere? Can't seem to find one... Anyways, bolded a typo mistake with "spell's" and shouldn't the sentence about of "cost more mana" be removed since we have not used that system in some time?

Enlarge spell feat
==================
This feat allows you to cast spells further than normal. This only works for spells that can already be range cast. An enlarged spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spellÕs actual level.
This feat makes the spell cost more mana. This feat is a metamagic feat.
This feat has no pre-requisites.

Re: More helpfile errors
I know you can apply to the Code Council Apprentices. (Look under "Usergroups" on the "User Control Panel".) I believe those forums list and deal with these help file issues.
Re: More helpfile errors
Code Council apprentices is not for help file errors. I would actually suggest sending Raona a PM as she is the one who spearheads help file adjustments.

Re: More helpfile errors
You aren't out of it, Nysan! There was a whole forum, which seems to have been "de-listed," as well as a long topic of helpfile edits, which I can't find either. This works just as well - I've made the fixes you've pointed out, and thank you for doing so!Nysan wrote:Am I out of it again, or was there a thread to list helpfile errors somewhere? If anyone else finds a helpfile error, feel free to reply to this message, or start a new thread. I still troll the boards enough that I should eventually find and address it.
Parenthetically, Lerytha's player is the master of the spell helpfiles, but as they are presently unable to log on I didn't forward this issue to them!

Uncanny Dodge
=============
Syntax: Automatic
This passive ability allows rogues to react to unseen danger before they
would normally be able to do so. Consequently, if a rogue is attacked by an
unseen foe, invisible or hidden, they will react instinctively. If they do
so successfully, the rogue retains his or her dexterity bonus even if caught
off guard (flat-footed).
To my knowledge rogues do not receive this skill, but only guilded thieves do. Should the instances of rogue be replaced with thief?

Can any rogues out there confirm this for me? I can't get onto the testport at the moment.Jaenoic wrote:Uncanny Dodge

Re: More helpfile errors
Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge are "non-trainable features" that thieves get once they reach a certain level, something different from the skill dodge.
After doing some testing seems that bards don't get it, being an exclusive thief feature, could anyone else dust off a higher level pure rogue or bard and confirm this?

Re: More helpfile errors
Not to derail the thread but on the topic of the shields, it was covered before in another thread. The PC made shields that are specified armor types (ex:chainmail, platemail, scalemail) do not work as shields are supposed to. Shields are not intended to be specific armor types. But there are problems with the shield not stopping/reducing hits and if I recall the stun/bash that uses a shield won't work with them properly either. If the thread still exists I will edit with the link to the discussion.
The thread is gone from the bug forum. But I remember it was stated that the shield's made with an armor type are not coded properly. The final verdict was it wasn't a bug, but a misuse of syntax that caused the shields not to work properly.

Must have missed that thread or forgotten about it... that happens alot with me. *shrug* So, I went back and made a shield with the 'construct armor shield piece shield' and looked it over and the other two I made. You're right...
---
"a lead chain mail shield":
You see nothing special.
It is in perfect condition.
It is chain mail and is medium armor.
It is almost too large for you to wear.
It can be picked up, held.
It is worn as armour.
It is medium in size.
It is made of lead and weighs about 5 pounds.

"a lead shield":

It is in perfect condition.
It is shield and is light armor.
It is just the right size for you to wear.
It can be picked up, held.
It is worn as armour.
It is small in size.
It is made of lead and weighs less than a pound.
---
Surprised I never noticed that before. So much for my last post about the helpfile... Liandria is right though, the helpfile needs something about it. Odd little thing...

Thanks, Nysan and Liandria! I added another example line to the helpfile - do you think that covers it, or should I add something more explicit, likeNysan wrote:Liandria is right though, the helpfile needs something about it. Odd little thing...

Re: More helpfile errors
Thanks Alvirin and Jaenoic! I've updated the helpfiles to reflect my understanding that you don't train these skills, they are gained automatically, and that they only accrue to thieves.Alvirin wrote:Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge are "non-trainable features" that thieves get once they reach a certain level, something different from the skill dodge.

Re: More helpfile errors
I came across this:
Arctic Dwarves are the only of all the Dwarven branches that get a Str bonus.
I looked through the Player Handbook to try to find out where this excerpt may have been taken from, but could find nothing to support that line.
Arctic Dwarves, Dream Dwarves, and Gold Dwarves are the only ones that give any Dex mod to the penalty.Help Dwarf wrote:Their thick, stout frames lend them poor dexterity, but high strength and stamina.

Re: More helpfile errors
Maybe something like: Shields constructed with armor types, such as "a tin scale mail shield", will not function as shields. Only shields construct with shield, such as "a tin shield", function as shields.Raona wrote:Thanks, Nysan and Liandria! Course, I would suggest removing the troublesome command if I did not fear that it might disable other construct commands in the process. hehe

Re: More helpfile errors
Thanks Nysan - got it!
Re: More helpfile errors
When I received the feat Teacher 2 the imm that was taking care of the session that day and informed me that Teacher 2 requires a level of friendly charisma instead of the charismatic that as is says in the helpfiles and then did an ooc anouncement over the game, so I am unsure if the admins changed their mind about it after this or not but if it is still the case then the helpfile might need a look at.
Re: More helpfile errors
Today on one of my priests I was learning from a scroll and looked at the helpfile for write, Would it be possible to insert something about clerics as well currently it only says wizards.
Write
=====
Syntax: write <book name|scroll name>
This command is used to copy a spell from a rare tome of magic into
a wizards spellbook. It will only work when the character does not
know the spell, but is able to learn it both in level and guild.
This command will only work for wizards.
Scrolls can now be written into spellbooks as well.
Thanks for the time and effort.
