Menu Option: Who List
I would like to suggest the addition of a Who List option to the main account menu.
Having multiple characters, I often log into one character and then check the who list, only to find someone on there I need to catch with another character, or one I'd rather avoid altogether.
The option to check who on the main menu would, in my opinion allow people to decide which character they want to log in without having to go the extra few steps to log in and then relog.

I dont know how difficult that would be to code in, but I think it is a great idea . I also have done the same since I play different chars, that interact with some characters more than others.
Re: Menu Option: Who List
I think it would be better if the "who list" only shows those you have greeted ICly, faith managers, and possibly Deities(though only if you are a follower of said deity and they were in the mortal realm via their avatar) . That way, it would completely cut out the possibility of people using OOC knowledge gained by the who list IC.
Say if you were polymorped, shapechanged, change sex, etc... PC's can still use deduction and the who list to know who you are. It pretty much makes any of the disguising spells useless other than to sneak past city guards if you are a banned race.
It just doesn't make any sense to me for people you have not met/greeted IC to even know that you exist.

Re: Menu Option: Who List
That'd just make everybody not greet - and without a dubbing system to counter that, it'd be counter productive, in my eyes. But I like the thought process behind the suggestion.
Listen up! People pay good money to see this movie! When they go out to a theater they want cold sodas, hot popcorn, and no monsters in the projection booth! Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster?

This idea has been discussed bunches. Most recently I believe here and also with discussions as Titles as IC information.Julthain wrote:I think it would be better if the "who list" only shows ...
Though I sympathize with the arguments, for our size playerbase, I think we are better off as is to facilitate RP. *shrug*

I like where Julthain is going with the 'polymorph, shapechange, etc' thing. I agree that our ooc powers of deduction do reduce the usefulness of these type of spells.
Maybe is there a way that a player that is under a shapechange spell, that players entry on the who list is changed or removed?

Re: Menu Option: Who List
Wouldn't it all just be simplier for a menu style who list to list names with no additional information? Or just toggle so everyone is automatically ungreeted.

Re: Menu Option: Who List
I do not have a problem with the titles. Characters IC reputations proceed them, and if someone wants to label themselves as the "Shadowy Death Stalker of Waterdeep" they should deal with the consequences. They could of set their title to "Nothing to See Here". I also do not see PCs having much trouble sneaking around, if that was the concern...which I really doubt.
This type of info makes the game more realistic to allow the passage of information which would normally be flowing but can not be approximated with a smaller player base. (Or in this case of those of us with failing memories, things that IC-ly we would surely know.)
With regards to the orginal idea (sorry for the hijack Sairaven!), I don't have a strong opinion, other than being wary of any ideas which require re-coding.

Re: Menu Option: Who List
I'm just saying, it would be nice for disguises to actually work. I mean, those around you may RP that they do not know you are altered by magic, but OOC in their head they are going, "I know this dog here is just a PC in another form, better watch what I say." The next thing you know, the full blown conversation that was going on suddenly becomes secretive and everyone equips their amulets.

Re: Menu Option: Who List
Is the real issue here not using OOC knowledge IC, which has nothing to do with the "who" command?

As Caelnai said, the above was suppose to be the main discussion. =)Sairaven wrote:I would like to suggest the addition of a Who List option to the main account menu.

In regards to that, I don't see a need in changing the Who List or implementing it into the Menu Options. Yes I agree, it could be helpful sometimes, but in my opinion it’s fine just how it is. I do not think it is that hard to just log out & log back on. =) I mean, you never know if you log onto a character, you might just happen upon some interesting roleplays.
