Lapidary and Hammers

When trying to construct any sort of jewelry, while wielding a large smith's hammer, I get the echo about needing to wield a jeweler's hammer. So, when I wield a jeweler's hammer, I still get the same echo.

Ive tried it in my primary hand, my offhand, and also with both hands, and every time, the same echo arises.

Is there something wrong with lapidary syntax, or...?
