Instruments

Post by Lysha » Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:38 am

Hello everyone. Enig's player and I have been working on a project, and we were wondering what instruments you would be interested in seeing introduced to the game.

Please make all suggestions FK appropriate as in time line-wise (medieval so forth) and portability for the performer on the go.

I.E. No grand pianos or electric guitars for reasons stated above.

If, for some reason, you do NOT wish to post here, feel free to PM one of us or contact us by an appropriate means. I do NOT want you to show up at my apartment because you want bamboo pan flutes or a silver triangle. ;)

Thank you for your time in advance.

Like in all things of questionable knowledge wikipedia is my best friend.

May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

So no keytars? D=

I always thought there should be more lyres in the game. Lyres are like the poster child for medieval instruments, no? I also think the upright bass is the sexiest instrument known to man.

Beat me to it! I second the portative organ suggestion, and would like to request a pipe-and-tabor, a hurdy-gurdy, or a consort of recorders.

A few early instruments not listed on the Iowa State website are:
Theorbo and archlute (lutes with neck extensions to accommodate lower strings - video)
Vihuela (Renaissance Spanish guitar - video)

probably the most common instruments were wind and string, so what about maybe a lyre?

Already beat you there. We've already got a few that we've got in mind, but we're wanting to see what other people would want and possibly actually use.

This might be a dead thread, but might not.

It'd be interesting to see some eastern instruments, samisen and such.

Also, not sure if they'd already be in or not, but orcish war drums would be really cool.

Yeah, this thread has ended. It was for instrumental ideas for the new bardic area in Waterdeep.
Sorry you missed it. :(
