Font of Knowledge: Chamber of Records
Font of Knowledge: Chamber of Records
So, I'm finally making headway with the Font of Knowledge extension. And I'm trying to implement a suggestion of one of Oghma's church (Isabel, thank you for the suggestion!). I want to create a "Chamber of Records" in the temple, devoted completely to biographies of famous characters. This should go from A-Z, of any famous characters.
So, if you have any famous characters you want included in a Chamber of Records, for young people to search and find out your (fairly short) biographies, please reply to this thread with a summary of your character's history.
If you have lots of alts, feel free to put them all down.
I do have to stress that they have to be fairly famous.
What qualifies (with regards to Oghmans, anyway) as "famous"?
a) Having played the character for over three years (that's thirty-six years in-character, long enough to build up some sort of fame.
b) Having reached at least Inner Circle rank
c) Please make reference to the fact of if you are a FM
d) Having been involved in a wide-reaching IMM-run RP
e) If you're not sure whether you qualify, please reply anyway. If you don't feature in the Chamber of Records, I'm sorry, but I guess the silly scribes will have thought "Who is THIS?" and thrown it away.
Hope to get a decent response!
Obviously this can only be done once, unfortunately, so get all your famous characters dusting their biographies so we can get as many as possible in this room.
(Yes, the Oghmans have, grudgingly, accepted the names of famous Cyricists, Maskarrans or Banites to place into the Chamber of Records... after all, we need some way of warning against their evil! )
Thanks!

Re: Font of Knowledge: Chamber of Records
Raona Corbin was born in Waterdeep, the only daughter to two individuals who
had worked their way up into the Waterdeep government. Her father was a judge
in the mercantile courts, settling trade disputes, while her mother was a
diplomat of some renown, though both were of peasant birth. There were
rumours that her mother carried some celestial blood in her.
At the age of six, the family home was engulfed in in flames, and both her
parents consumed in the blaze. Raona herself was saved, just barely, by a
paladin of Mystra, and placed in the orphanage at the Font. Raona was so
traumatized by the experience, however, that she became madly fearful of
bright light, and at dawn the next day fled the Font into the sewers of
Waterdeep. It was there she spent her remaining childhood years, venturing
out only at night, and learning little save the cruel lessons that survival
in the city sewers might offer.
She finally overcame her fear of the light in her fourteenth year, at which
time she returned to the Font and eagerly took to her studies, working very
hard to make up for lost time. By her twentieth year, she was as educated as
a typical sixteen year-old, and left the Font to explore Faerun and decide on
a path for her life.
Raona was extremely contemplative and inquisitive over this period, and
considered joining many faiths, including those of Kelemvor, Oghma, Helm,
Lathander, and Torm. However, she became deeply troubled by the philosophical and moral
question of whether to obey the legal codes of other races, specifically
brutish races, upon learning that such exist. This inquiry eventually led
her to Tyr, and in time to find her heart embraced Justice fully. She became
a follower of the Maimed God, and a page in service thereof, probably the
oldest individual to ever start down that path, at the age of some
twenty-three years. Lacking any training in social graces and decorum, and
having no formal weapons training, her time as a squire was also very long,
but she was dutiful and dedicated. She finally became a paladin in her
forty-fifth year, concurrent with her sister in the Triad, Jaenoic of
Ilmater, her senior and long up to that point a Cavalier.
Since her accolade, Raona has taken on a leadership role in Waterdeep,
serving as the organizer of the Lawmakers and an officer in the Waterdeep
City Watch. Upon Gwain Rambash's retirement from the position, she assumed
the role of Acting Commander of the City Watch, eventually rising to the rank
of Civilar. She represents the Watch on Waterdeep's Council of Lords, along
with her colleague Lady Saranya.
In her time as Watch Commander, Raona has urged the Watch toward more
preventive and wide-ranging law enforcement activities, aiding visitors to
the City, clarifying and codifying the laws, and moving from putative to
preventive sentencing.
Raona has also risen to a position of some responsibility in the Church of
Justice, and serves as the mentor to many of that faith's young pages and
squires.

Gwain Rambash, Retired Deathlord of Kelemvor
============================================
Nothing much can be said of Gwain Rambash that has not already been said at
some point in the past. The twenty-second son of Granel Razorbeard and
Illandria Felonquest, he has made his life an open book to those willing to
read it.
Gwain was born in Tasseldale, his parents doting at first; but they grew
distant, to the point that on his second birthday, Granel left. His mother
did her best to raise Gwain alone, but beset with financial hardships and
mental anguish she soon bundled the both of them to Cimbar in the rowdy
country of Chessenta, in order to find more oppertunities. Sadly Illandria
disappeared into the harbour one night, her mind set on swimming to Evermeet.
Her body was never found. Gwain found himself an orphan in the filthy back
streets of Cimbar. Relief, of a sort, came in orphanages run by the Religion
of Hoar, the god of vengeance. It was here lessons in mind games and social
warfare were instituted into his eager mind, a cold and calculating streak
blossomed and a sense of fearless hopelessness came to fore in his mind.
At the age of seventeen Gwain set out on his own, traveling through Amn and
Tethir on foot and by boat to Mazica. In the Town of Helmsport, he gave his
alliegence to the Refuge Bay Trading Company and was sent to Chult. His
employment was simple, to recover lost slaves and goods. Brutal work, it
earned him the animosity of the natives and helped him to better understand
hatred and the plight of the helpless. It was here that he first questioned
the tactics of vengeance, when he chose not to kill a young slave bent on
freedom. Shortly afterward he resigned his position and returned to Faerun.
He began work as a mercenary escorting pilgrims from Baldur's Gate on the
coast to the interior of Amn. During this period, he witnessed a mass
migration caused by the Bhaalspawn Wars and civil war in Tethyr. He visited
Waterdeep to answer a summons from his Father, only to find that he had died
a year prior. Distraught, he stayed within the city and attempted to observe
the teachings of Hoar and joined the Fighter's guild. This was all soon to
change.
Impatient and rude, he was changed by a series of events culminating with
crippling injuries and blindness. Cold and patient, he became of priest
devoted to the Church of Death, eventually rising to the rank of Deathlord.
Exceedingly pious and full of faith, he aided in the revitalization of the
church and research into locations for future places of worship. In the years
that then passed he joined, rose to lead, and reinvigorated the Waterdeep
City Watch, and also became one of the City's Lawmakers. His detractors call
him cold, uncaring, and heartless: and Gwain is compelled to agree with them.
His hobbies include sock collecting and lecturing.
Now fully retired, he has gone on to serve Jergal, the seneschal of Kelemvor.

Briek Blackthorn was born in Tethyr at the time of the great Interregnum
Which spilt the country apart. Orginally of the Millstone clan his parents
were Kortal and Alisande Millstone, Baron and Baroness of Clovis Fields.
It was an arrangment between the pairs clans, Blackthorn and Millstone
which brought them together into a sadly unhappy marriage. Obviously not
sharing any love for one another they only took to bed long enough to bear
an heir, Briek. It was this time after long planning between the infamous
General Sharboneth and Prince Alemander brought about what is now known as
The Black Days of Eleint, killing all but one of the Royal Family and plunging
Tethyr into chaos. Kortal, long bitter for for his minor status in the nobility
craved more power and so forged an alliance with the other nobles in the coup.
the clan of Blackthorn who were loyalists to the royals now fought to keep
order, the current duke of Cape Velen Lord Llachior Blackthorn saw his sister
Alisande's plight and attempted a rescue shortly after the coup, but it failed.
Kortal was increasingly paranoid that Llachior would help Alisande and Briek
to escape, revealing many of his crimes to the powerful duke. Thus begin a life
of confinement and inprisonment for Alisande and Briek, Briek himself was kept
from his mother and constantly made to endure his fathers wicked practices of
slave trading to raise money for his estate.
When Briek's ninth winter had come about, things were changing for the better
the Company of Eight had made good ground to restoring order and finally
Llachior had found Alisande and Briek once again, and was attempting another
rescue. Plans do not always go as envisioned however, Briek managed to escape
but Alisande was killed in the attempt, giving her life so that Briek might
live. This began a new phase in Briek's life, now in the relatively safe
surroundings of Tordraken, the Ducal seat in Cape Velen and under the
protection of his uncle the duke. Llachior took Briek as if he were his own
son, while he and Lawantha (Llachior's wife and duchess) were away often
Briek recieved the best of care. In these years he earnestly began study
under many tutors in all the things expected of a young Tethyrian nobleman.
Five years past, the Interregnum coming to a close in the Reclaimation
Llachior told Briek upon his fourteenth birthday (his coming of age) that
Kortal had been captured and placed under arrest, Llachior thought it best
for Briek that he leave Tethyr for the north, until years had past and things
had stablised again. Briek could not wear the name of Millstone in Tethyr
without great prejudice, and his father's lands had been absorbed by the Crown.
Llachior explained to Briek that he could not adopt Briek into the clan of
Blackthorn, for although they were family, Queen Zaranda had many years of
consolidation ahead of her and such minor decisions would not be made, he
also wished for Briek to gain real world experience, free of the trappings
of noble life. Briek set out for Waterdeep.
He arrived at Waterdeep in which is uncle had arranged for trainers at the
Font of Knowledge to take him own, nervous and quite frightened he made his way
there. It was on this very first day that Briek would meet the woman who would
change his life forever, one Lady Raona Corbin. Raona showed young Briek around
the city, almost immediately taking him under her wing, it was then that Briek
learned of the Just God, eager to learn more he constantly pressed Raona for
knowledge and she gladly taught him, his past drew him so stongly to what Tyr
represented. So it came to pass that Briek joined the faith of the Maimed One,
he then expressed his desire to serve as a paladin and Raona took him on.
Spending many years in training he rose in the ranks of the church, pressing
on with his formal squiring. Before his training came to an end he had mentored
under many knights, Lady Jaenoic Jerald, Lady Raona Corbin and last but not
least, Sir Harroghty Rallyhorn. Finally, close to reaching his thirties he
himself took upon the role of knighthood, as a paladin of Tyr.
in between his training, news came from home that his uncle had formally
adopted him into the ducal clan of Blackthorn, enabling him also to return to
Tordraken. Now well settled into his knightly duties he spends much time away
from Waterdeep as an errant for his Lord and visiting his homeland. He is a
well respected and senior member of the Maimed Gods faith. He also serves
on Waterdeep's City Watch as a Corporal, which he has done for quite some
years although his knightly duties now take up much more of his time. He also
helps Lady Raona in the training of pages and squires.

What's the deadline on this? Why can it only be done once?
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.
Re: Font of Knowledge: Chamber of Records
Largely because I can only build it once. The deadline is quite long, probably a coupla months.
I've heard there might be a way of linking the room to the helpfiles, which might be better. But for now, we'll assume I can only build the place once, and am putting these biographies in using the extra description parts of a room.

Wavemistress Maeithra, Maelstrom of Umberlee
Very little is known about the circumstances that resulted in the birth of the Wavemistress Maeithra - indeed, even the water genasi herself does not know what mixture of blood runs in her veins. Her earliest memories are of the Shalarin who raised her, a member of the aquatic race's Seekers Caste of disparate adventurers. That said, she identifies only nominally with the race as a whole - the Seekers being relegated to the fringes of Shalarin society as explorers, rogues and priests who have adopted new gods after their own became distant and silent. As a child Maeithra spent much time in the great underwater city of Myth Nantar, living in relative peace among the many native peoples of the Inner Sea. Gradually, however, the attention of her guardian turned towards the surface and the Queen of the Depths, Umberlee. As he sought to encourage greater worship of Her below the waves - where the Sea Queen's storms are much muted - so it fell to Maeithra to spread the word on the surface, as the half of the pair able to breath air.
She surfaced near the Pirate Isles where she was immediately taken in by the superstitious Captain Vincente Tantares as a sign of good fortune, being both a child of the sea and a follower of Umberlee. Together they sailed the seas aboard the Maiden's Folly, with Maeithra rising quickly through the ranks until she became First Mate and the Captain's closest companion. While the captain takes pains to present himself as an amiable 'gentleman of fortune' it is no secret that the ship sailed under pirates' colours - more often raising the bloody flag than the Jolly Roger; no quarter given and none expected.
Eventually the pair found themselves on the Sword Coast, where Maeithra began to turn her attention more fully to matters of religion. Raised with no contact with humans, and later exposed only to the rough ways of seafaring folk, she had difficulty understanding the polite ways of surface society - and to this days remains blunt to the point of rudeness at times. Despite this, and unlike many of her faith, Maeithra courted the favour of Waterdeep - preaching as much of Umberlee's bounty and savage beauty as Her furious anger and capricious nature. The then-Waveservant even went so far as to approach the Open Lords of Waterdeep for permission to raise a temple in Umberlee's name at the mouth of the docks - leading to more than one curious friendship of sorts and, eventually, the raising of the Queenspire.
Shortly after the dedication of the Queenspire, Maeithra was called to the altar where she was told that in recognition for her works to further the faith of the Sea Queen, she had been chosen for a new task - to lead the faith as Wavemistress.
Truth is beautiful, without doubt; but so are lies.

Graham Greyjoy, Black Finger of Beshaba
=====================================
What can be said of Graham Greyjoy? A man born, some say,
nearly seventy years ago should have a presentable biography;
this cannot be said of Graham Greyjoy. A man as documented
across the realms for his crimes, antics, and endeavors should
have some reliable background information; this cannot be
said of Graham Greyjoy. What can be said of Graham Greyjoy,
based on educated speculation and as much trust one can
give to a self-proclaimed "sire of thieves," is that he was born
in Baldur's Gate to a minor house of nobles, though years of
treachery and betrayal have all but erased it from the ledgers
of the Adventurer's City. Compiled documents, including a manifest from
port authorities show that he, under his earliest alias "Dirk",
travelled from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep at a young age--the list
of petty thefts, assaults, public indecency, and resisting arrest
goes on in Waterdeep for ten years. At this mark, it becomes apparent
that Greyjoy's condition has changed; multiple arrests are made daily
on subjects claiming either to work for, or be, one Graham Greyjoy,
yet Graham himself is rarely apprehended. Graham himself
begins making claims that, despite his previous affiliation with the clergy,
the Lady of Tymora's dogma and faith are false. It is believed that he
defected to the Lady of Beshaba towards the end of his twenty-ninth year.
From the time that he joined the clergy, his actions became more clear--
in fact, the syndicate of enigmatic men surrounding him seem to have
either disbanded or dedicated themselves to more secretive work, while
Graham Greyjoy grew more fervent in his--privately funding a new temple
of his Lady, politically aligning with the orcs of the Snowflake Mountains,
and increasing his frequent endeavors against the adventuring class in Waterdeep
under the moniker of a Black Fingers assassin. With his hands in many plots
around the Realms, it is apparent that Greyjoy has and will continue to leave
his mark on the minds, pockets, and safety of the adventurers across the realms.
(Maybe more to come, will edit if I can think of anything better. Hope you enjoy it--I did. XD)

in fact, the syndicate of enigmatic men surrounding him seem to have
either disbanded or dedicated themselves to more secretive work, while
Graham Greyjoy grew more fervent in his--privately funding a new temple
of his Lady, politically aligning with the orcs of the Snowflake Mountains,
and increasing his frequent endeavors against the adventuring class in Waterdeep
under the moniker of a Black Fingers assassin. With his hands in many plots
around the Realms, it is apparent that Greyjoy has and will continue to leave
his mark on the minds, pockets, and safety of the adventurers across the realms.
(Maybe more to come, will edit if I can think of anything better. Hope you enjoy it--I did. XD)
Jamais arriere.
Re: Font of Knowledge: Chamber of Records
Mazikeen Wormheart, Stormspell of Talos
---------------------------------------------------
{70} Mazikeen Wormheart hails from the seedy streets of Calimport. Born a bastard, her mother kept and cared for her until she was just five years of age. Her father was never involved in her life, nor is it clear who he is. At age four her mother was exiled from the City for a supposed attempt on the king's life. She began her search for a new beginning in the depths of Skullport, many miles from her former life, and whatever past she had there. Mazikeen's history grows a bit muddled from this point, as she has never spoken in detail of this period in her life. Speculation is that her mother abandoned her soon after their arriving in Skullport. No record can be found of her mother ever living in the Port of Skulls for more than a year.
The next time Mazikeen's name is found in public record is thousands of miles to the East, in the Dales. In a small village, of no more than a dozen and a half sheep herders, she is said to have joined with a priestess of what would become great import. The world would know her as Khara, and several years after she became the Stormherald. Mazikeen continued to rise with Khara as a valued advisor, and trusted (albeit closely watched) ally. When Mazikeen made her intent to serve the Stormlord known, it was clear that she would be an important name within the Church. Since then, in the years that have passed, she has risen to the rank of Stormspell, or the Archmagis of Talos. A known Necromancer, she heads the Circle of Rust and the Worm.
