FK on Mac
FK on Mac
Got a shiny Macbook Pro recently (online classes) and I have transferred most of my stuff to it, but I am stuck and need help. Can anyone suggest a program that will run FK on Macs? My current Zmud doesn't carry over saddly and I don't like keeping this old PC around just for FK.

Me neither. PC user all my life. This Mac was part of my online classes package, not sure if I'll ever get used to the small differences. Its faster and has more memory than my PC, so I'm trying to adjust.

There is a java client on here somewhere that works with macs.
I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.

Yup, works on every platform I've tried it on! To use it, go to the top of your current web browser page, just below the Forgotten Kingdoms logo, and pick Getting Started > Connect to FK > Connect with Java ClientKirkus wrote:There is a java client on here somewhere that works with macs.
There are certainly other Mac users out there, but there doesn't seem to be one single MUD client they widely prefer.
Re: FK on Mac
Thank you kindly folks.
Edit: Could someone tell me how to change the size of the font of Java client? Just a little too small for my tastes.

Marty's FANG client is outstanding. I haven't, though, used it in a little bit nor any Java-based applications, so I can't recall adjusting font size. Sorry.
Something for all of you Mac users to keep in mind is virtualization software. If you're familiar with Wine (from Linux) there's similar (sort of) software available for your Macs. My personal preference is VMware, but there is also Bootcamp and Parallels Desktop. Any of these three can install sweet, sweet Windows 7 (if you've got it) - or any of the preceding flavors - into a virtual machine that will run right within OSX.
Another option for ya'll is to dual-boot. Macbook Pros no longer use proprietary hardware so you're able to install most Windows iterations on a separate partition on your hard drive(s). Google for some walkthroughs if you're interested or feel free to ask for some guidance.

I dont know for sure but maybe Tinyfugue will work on a mac. Its faster than zmud, but no graphic mapper. I am willing to give assistance to people trying to figure out how to make it work as well.
Re: FK on Mac
Tested every mud client for Mac, they all hose the VT tactical interface. You can turn the VT off, but if you're like me, the tactical interface is 99.9% of why I actually play FK.
Best bet is to get Crossover for Mac.
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
It requires no Windows install, no hard disk partitions or virtual disks, and it runs Windows apps right in your Mac OS environment. It works only on Intel Macs, which your MacBook Pro is. And I have tested it with ZMud and it works.

Re: FK on Mac
Old topic, but check out TinTin++, can run the VT100 stuff in FK well, and works on Mac OSX (10.2 and higher) and is free, as well as having an attentive and helpful person who oversees the development on the client (he answered my question on their forums within a day).

Re: FK on Mac
For those of you using the Intel Macs, someone from here (wish I could recall who) tipped me off to using VirtualBox. Awesome. Allows me to run Windows (or any other operating system) simultaneously with Mac OS. I don't have to reboot as a PC. Windows in one window, Mac OS in another, same mouse. It allows me to continue using ZMud.
