Paint
Paint
I think it'd be nice to have paint available, for armorsmithing. A 'paint' command would apply it, sort of like a automatic rename.

Re: Paint
Can you explain a little further what you mean? This is how I saw it:
Code: Select all
You carry:
a bottle of blue ink
a steel ring mail helm
'paint helm blue'
You paint a helm blue!
You carry:
a blue steel ring mail helm

Re: Paint
That's exactly what I meant. Does this mean painting is already ingame, or was it just an example?

Re: Paint
It was just an example. It's not in the game yet. Things like this have been discussed before - I know some of the crafters in the game have been wanting something like it for some time.
If you have a well-constructed idea of what you want to see for it, we'd love to see it. I can't speak on behalf of the game admins, managers, and stuff, but I'd reckon that something that's thorough will likely be more successful.
Also, you can submit an application here on the forums to have something renamed. I can't guarantee its success, but it is a path to consider.

Re: Paint
If such a feature was developed, I would strongly recommend it is restricted to PC crafted goods only. I think changing a "titanium full plate helm" into a "light-blue titanium full plate helm" is a great idea. Woodworking, weaponsmithing, and leatherworking would also benefit from this. Not exactly sure lapidary should be considered. A gold ring is a gold ring. Who really paints a gold ring?
I don't think the idea would mesh with items not made by PCs. Far too many NPC items are already colored, or have color in the name "bright green chainmail boots", or have descriptions that mention color. Trying to merge a paint feature with these items would be a huge task and not worth the effort, in my eyes.

You do not need to change the world, merely leave it a little better than how you found it.

Re: Paint
My assumption was that it was only for PC-crafted objects. The OP mentioned 'armoursmithing' in his post so that is what I figured.Nysan wrote:If such a feature was developed, I would strongly recommend it is restricted to PC crafted goods only. If that was not his explicit intention, I 100% agree with Nysan. This would definitely only be for PC-made items. But it would definitely allow for some good custimisation for skilled craftsman... it could be boring if every fighter in the game was wearing "steel full plate <piece>" everywhere. Some colour would be enjoyable.

Re: Paint
I assumed the OP was focused on PC crafts too, but doesn't hurt to state the obvious now and then.
And yes, would be great to paint some of Gilain's wares. I sure his customers love his work, but would like it better if they could order it colored to match their other equipment. Titanium grey can only go so far in the name of fashion.
At first thought, I considered this as an addition of a color code to the "construct" command chain, after size maybe. Something like "construct armor body titanium platemail medium A0". But, that means already made crafts could not be changed and I have to show my selfish side and be concerned with that approach.
Maybe simply another command that skilled crafters could use, much like mend, using the color codes: "paint helm A0".
Random thoughts, take them as you will.
