New website

Post by Mask » Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:51 pm

Hi there!

Our new website is live! A great debt of gratitude is owed to Eltsac (and her helper elf, Brar) for the new site design and layout, and also to Nick Deligaris for giving us permission to use his artwork in the new site.

We'll need some volunteers to offer up new content for the home page (a bullet list of features maybe?) and for the 'Play' page, but I think the new site is fantastic! Any teething issues, please report in this topic, I'll start a couple of new threads for suggestions for new Play/Home pages.

Ok, that was a shock!

It looks really good, I like the under-stated colour scheme.
Two quick things:

1. "Our community consists of a number of motivated role-players who have been drawn to our swords and sorcery world to play it's rogues and heroes."

That should be "its" without an apostrophe.

2. Where are the maps? I have a terrible sense of direction and spatial memory, so I rely on them quite a lot XD

I really like the artwork and layout very intense.

It could just be me being a blindo, but I'm finding the red 'unread' highlight for unread topics on the forum difficult to make out against the new beige background. I'd be inclined to make it either a little brighter, or a more contrasting colour perhaps.

I agree with that. When I came to the forum I wasn't sure whether I was logged in or not, because there didn't seem to be any new posts.

Okay, I never log out of the forums, so everything was white and blue when I sat down. I looked at the number of posts and said "Okay, let's see what's new today" and clicked refresh.

...

First words out of my mouth was "Oh Holy Crap!"

So far, what I've seen, I like. :D

p.s.~ Oh Holy Crap!

I'm going to join the group of red/beige colourblind people and agree that it could be clearer. Maybe a different icon entirely for threads that have new posts?

I'm also going to whine because the forum won't display properly on my rickety old work machine (yes, yes, I know I shouldn't be reading it from work!), but that's neither here nor there!

To be honest, she did a complete icon overhaul 4 years ago, but she did not had time to look into transforming them for the new layout but it's near next on the todo :P

I'm gonna whip her tonight until she finish them :)

Yvonne, what browser do you use at work? I'm sure we can do something for you :)

I agree with the holy crap reaction. Very surprising, but welcomed, change.

I will take some time to work on icons I promise :)
I simply changed the original icons color so it was faster, but I will try to come up with something better, and different for topics with new posts (maybe a closed parchment, and opened for topics with new posts?)

Yvonne, what won't display properly on your old machine?

Maybe the "Help" section would be the best place for them?

I'm not sure what you mean by "glovebox" in the context, and I'm not sure whether you're saying "Does the website have a glovebox?" or "The website has a glovebox, duh!" :/ Sorry

Going to be added under Help - Maps of the Kingdoms in a few moments, with new updated maps along the way.

Re. the site not working for me at work: I really wouldn't worry about it, we have Windows 2000 and IE 6. I'm slumming it while I'm there. Besides, there's always the trusty iPhone!

Noticed another wee thing. The link to "board index" at the bottom of each page doesn't work. :)

Edited to add that none of those links at the bottom work: Board index, subscribe to topic, delete all board cookies, etc.
